- Background
- I am a second-generation captain that grew up in Hatteras village. My father is an inshore fishing captain, and I was raised fishing and learning from him every chance I got. My father and my 2 brothers all run charters to this day, and we use each other to help aid one another in finding and catching fish. I have fished the local waters for 30 years and worked on many big local boats until I had the money to buy my own boat.
- Techniques
- We most often use a cast and retrieve technique with jigs or spoons. When the weather is not fit for throwing jigs we will bait fish. We also target Spanish mackerel and that fish is caught using a trolling technique. We also sight fish for cobia and red fish. This is just as it sounds , we ride around slowly looking for fish and when we see them we cast to them using bucktails and jigs. When sight fishing , flyfishing is utilized by those who provide there own gear. It's a perfect set up for flyfishing. Most of the time the weather is going to dictate what fishing techniques we will be using for the day.
