What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Brethren, Michigan for the first time?

Take the time to learn how the fish react to your fishing methods. Find out what works and doesn’t. Having a knowledgeable guide or instructor / friend is a very big step up toward getting prepared to legally hook and land kings.

Salmon have not yet started their run, but I caught one anyway due to Brad’s expertise. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He knows the Manistee, where the fish are, where the snags are, was so nice to fish with for my daughter and me. Best guide I’ve ever had on a Michigan river, and I’ve been coming up here for years.

The salmon are running by the thousands!! Also saw some huge brown trout caught. The whole experience was just awesome and fun! And if you love the outdoors, Michigan that time of year on the river is beautiful.

Forgot to mention that Capn Anthony knows the river very well and knows how to get us in the Fish. Booking him for next year on the Manistee.

Dress for the weather. We had a chilly morning. Glad we had the gear. The weather warmed up in a couple of hours and so did the fishing. Bad weather days can be very productive.

I would recommend getting ahold of Brad from Manistee fishing company and book a trip on the Big Manistee!

Pack the cooler. Dress properly it is cool on the river in the mornings. Winter requires layers and good water proof boots.

If you want Salmon come in the last of September thru 2 nd week in October. If you want steel head come later part of October. Avoid the crowds and come midweek.

Do yourself a favor and book a charter the first day so the experienced captains can show you how to catch your target fish.

Dress right. Go to tippy dam rec area. If you just tell the gps tippy dam you will go to the wrong side of the dam and be 20 minutes late.

Have patience and trust you're captain. You may know what you're talking about but these guys live on the rivers

Be patient and time your trip. He will find the fish, and enjoy the day. The boat is excellent as well as the captain.

Make sure you have a dependable GPS to find your way, the area can be a bit confusing if you're a total stranger to it.

Sure, lots of charters there, so I presume fishing there is good at the right time. I will book again for a 2nd time with the same captain.

I would recommend going a little later in the season so the chances of really hot weather go down.

Be prepared for any weather in the fall. Be on time and respectful of your captains.
