What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Galveston, Texas for the first time?

Fish are always biting in Galveston somewhere! March can get windy but you will find fish wherever you go

Pay attention to the weather. You want to monitor the rain and wind as much as possible. It will determine how good your first experience turns out.

Weather conditions are unpredictable and it has been windy the whole time which makes fishing a challenge

The older captains have great wisdom, but the young bucks are working hard to prove themselves. Liam, a young buck was outstanding. He got us on the fish early and often.

The best time to catch redfish and sheep fish is during the spawning season and the best time for shark fishing is in the summer months especially July.

Call Captain Rene if this is your first time ocean fishing. He’s been doing this for a long time and knows the best spots.

Not as diverse a set of fish from which to choose to go after versus maybe a bit later. The one’s we did go after though were plenty ready to bite.

Be ready to wait it out. We had several bites but ultimately only pulled up two VERY large Drums in four hours. Still such a cool experience

Galveston waters are great for fishing! Plus the island is a beautiful resort town. Not sure what’s prettier, the gulf at sunrise or sunset.

In November, wear jeans and a shirt and a hoodie. If you have a water repellent jacket, that will be perfect.

Jackets and rain gear. Even though it was not rainy or windy the spray from the run out was still cold.

The water was choppy and the wind was cold but that is November. We went in the morning. The sun came out later in the day and it warmed up nicely.

It truly depends on when I’m November and what the rather is doing, I recommend always checking with your Captains prior to booking. In my experience it was amazing!

Understand that it may be very, very cold. We wnet at this exact same time last year and it was very pleasant. This time of year it could go either way depending on the day.

Just fish, sometimes you will catch and sometimes not. Learn to enjoy the experience of fishing and being out, the catching part is a bonus.

Book a private charter. A tad more expensive but way worth the experience. What a blast during the fall season.

If you think you might get seasick, take your motion sickness medication at least 30 minutes before boarding. My (adult) son found this out the hard way.

It was record high heat so we are glad we went in the morning for just a few hours. Can’t wait to go again a cooler time of year.

I go to Galveston every year have since the 60's & this has been the worst fishing ever. I don't know what the issue was,

It was hot and our trip occurred during the month + long drought. There many boats around us not catch anything.

We all got to catch a fish. They were mostly small and we threw them back so it was for fun more than it was for dinner. Keep that in mind but it was absolutely perfect for my family.

Go with a independent small business guide that fishes daily and can put you on the fish. Don't waste time and money on large charter companies that just want to be grossly! overpaid for a boat ride.

If it’s summer time head deep for the snapper, in the fall and winter hit those Jetties and keep those lines TIGHT!

Make sure details specified for your trip are accurate before loading on your boat ask if your boat is mechanically in tune for your trip l.

Go early in the morning in August, Be patient and flexible. Having a great attitude is the best. Enjoy the moment and experience.

Perfect if it’s your first time captain was really hands on and helped out teaching and catching!

I would say get captain Brad I fish alot and this was one of my funnest trips,not only did we catch fish but he was professional and knowledgeable.

Really bad fishing for this time of year, too hot and too clear water. Let's hope fall will be great!!!

Seems like common sense but make sure you have sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, dont have your phone where it could fall in the water, and listen to the captain ?

Summer fishing in July is rough as the hot water makes the fish not bite as much. Going to come back when the weather is cooler.
