Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report if definitely better then last weeks we are starting to see a little bit more action. This week trolling on the reef has been tough not many bites, a few king mackeral in the early mornings and some smaller bonitos. Kite fishing with live bait has been the best method to get some quality fish on the reef like smoker kings. Most of the action has been in the deeper waters around 200 to 300 feet. There has been a few stray mahi mahi still around no rhyme or reason as to why but the ones that have been around have been very good size. Most of the mahis have been just random but some have been coming on small pieces of seaweed as well as some birds, so keep that in mind while trolling. Other then mahi this week, the most consistent bite for trolling has been the afternoon blackfin tuna. Like I always preach in all my reports when the weather is consistent day in and day out the fishing is going to be right behind it. The afternoon black fin tunas have been biting best in depths around 200 feet of water. Smaller lures are still going to be the best choice, but you can get some bigger ones on bigger baits. The small spoon is still my go to choice right now because the size of the bait appeals to all fish. There was a few wahoo biting as well in those depths this week but unfortunately we were not lucky enough to get one, there should be a little flurry of wahoo just after this full moon so be on the look out for some great wahoo pics in future reports. Sailfishing has been slow, there has not been many caught this week I'm unsure as to why, I'm thinking we are going to have a big push in spring time I hope, but for now that fishery has been quiet. Last but not least bottom fishing reminds stellar for fish like vermillion snappers as well as porgies. This week we had some larger snappers around 3 and 4 pounds, I know that doesn't seem big for saltwater fish but for these species that only get max size around 5lbs its giant, not to mention some of the best eating around. 250 feet seems to be the magic number right now for snapper fishing as long as the current and winds are light I am able to position the boat accordingly to maximize bites. For the next few weeks coming up I would expect we will start to see some king mackeral move into the area as well as the blackfin tunas to continue to stay consistent, wreck fishing for hard fighters like amberjacks should begin to pick up as well. Also don't forget the migration of large game sharks through our area. Lots to look forward to as spring time approaches, somewhat of a busy week on the horizon but we still have plenty of availability for the rest of the month of February and March so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to how you a great time on the water.
