Good Time Charlie Sportfishing is located in Newport, Oregon and runs ocean fishing trips out of South Beach Marina for halibut, salmon, rockfish, lingcod, tuna, and crab. Our goal is to provide a fun and safe experience with memories to last a lifetime. Whether this is your first trip on the ocean or you’re an old salty dog, we will work with you to provide the experience you’re looking for.
Capt. Joe will work hard make sure you have a fun day of fishing. He's also happy to take families with little kids because he believes sharing experiences on the ocean at an early age fosters love of the ocean for a lifetime. Good Time Charlie Sportfishing is happy to customize a family trip for you if you have small children.
Your fishing adventure starts on a 27' Northwest boat with a full cabin that can safely take up to 6 anglers and keep everyone dry on the ride to the fishing grounds. The boat has down riggers for trolling and power assist reels for deepwater halibut fishing.
All rods, reels, and terminal tackle are included in the price so you can focus on what really matters, having fun fishing. Please make sure to buy a valid fishing license ahead of time.

Great Trip!

Captain Joe is great! He stayed in touch with us before our trip and made sure we were well prepared. Some of us were worried about being seasick and he was very accomodating. We are completely new to any kind of fishing and we had a great time, caught a bunch of fish, and the only thing better than the fishing was the company - if we are ever back in the Newport area we’ll for sure go fishing again with Captain Joe.

I highly recommend investing your time and money to enjoy a full day of fishing with Good Time Charlie. Joe's intelligence and respect to the ocean is out of this world. Not one dull moment even when my nephews got sea sick and needed a nap, he still attended to them and made sure everything was ok then woke em up to reel in the fish. Fishing trip of a lifetime!!
Full Day – Salmon Shared on July 9, 2025 • 2 adults
I have nothing but good things to say! Joe was fantastic from start to finish! He was communicating with my wife and I months before the charter all the way until the morning of the charter. Answered every question we had making this part of our trip very stress free! We had a great day on the water catching our limit of 10 hatchery raised coho salmon for the boat and releasing many wild fish. With only a few salmon left to finish our limit Joe used his local knowledge and went out of his way to give us a discovery channel experience! Birds diving, porpoises jumping, whales breaching, sea lions swirling and the best of all fish being caught! Joe was very accommodating to all of our needs in the boat and on shore. Once caught, our fish were immediately taken care of and put on ice for the best fillet quality. Our fish were cleaned and bagged for us on shore for a very reasonable price. Joe even shared some of his favorite recipes with us and the best ways to take care of our meat! Book this trip now before it is too late! You will not regret it. We will be booking again!

Great for a family outing

We had a group of 6 from 8 to 80. All different experience levels and we had a blast. My kiddo caught his first seconds into our first drift. Then was sea sick most of the rest of the trip. Joe did an amazing job making sure lines were in the water and the catch was being expertly taken care of all while making sure the little guy was as comfortable as possible.
