Hooked Up Sportfishing Costa Rica
Make the most of your time in Herradura and go fishing with Hooked Up Sportfishing Costa Rica.
The fish in these waters include Cero Mackerel, Red Grouper, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin, Blue Marlin, Roosterfish, Sailfish, Cubera Snapper, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and more if conditions allow. On these trips, it’s common to troll and bottom fish using light or heavy tackle.
Your boat for the day is a 30’ Bertram with space for 6 passengers. It comes with outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, and all the essentials. There’s a toilet on board for your convenience. Rods, reels, and tackle are included, along with lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you’ll be catching it yourself.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. Mates often work for tips, and it’s customary to offer them a 10–20% tip. Before coming aboard, you’ll need to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off-limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect.
Don’t leave home without sunglasses and sunblock (non-spray). The trip includes fruit, snacks, soft drinks, water and beer. Kids are welcome aboard, so feel free to bring them along!

Best crew in Herradura
I’ve been on guided trips all over the world. This crew bangs! We took a long ride out, maybe 25-30 miles. They made it comfortable with pineapples, drinks and bean bags chairs. We caught two giant sailfish on the way out. Then we got into the tuna. Tuna so big and so many our arms were busted. The crew had to help reel them in. Then the crew was tired and the captain reeled in one. Meanwhile when they weren’t reeling in 80-90 pound tunas they were processing them. Complete pros! We raised three swords, and landed two, 14 huge yellow tails and boated 10. Every tuna was a 20-30 minute fight and we had doubles hooked multiple times. If you’re in Jaco or Herradura and want to get worn out till you can’t even reel book this boat. We came back to the hotel/resteraunt with 40 pounds of pure boneless tuna. All our friends and staff feasted, and we only got 1/10 of the meat. They process close to 1000 pounds of fish! Humberto, Christian and Captain Piscano were top notch. If you like to party a little they are cool with that too. I can’t wait to come back! Absolutely amazing!

Great day on the water!
This was the best sportfishing trip I have been on. Lots of action catching yellowfin tuna while we watched hundreds of dolphin swim ad jump around us. The captain and first mate worked their tails off and were very professional. The trip ended when we hooked a giant blue marlin on the way back in, that was incredible even though the line snapped. Highly recommend this trip!

Great trip
The captain and crew were awesome and worked their butts off to get us on fish. We caught a lot of snapper and broke off a few large fish. They then took us out to sea and we worked on sailfish. We had one come up and chase the lures but no luck. We spent most of the time inshore so we focused more on that. Overall it was a great trip and we would definitely take a trip with them again!
