Spend a day with MJ’s Sportfishing Charters and get bit fishing the clear blue waters of Lake Michigan! Your guide for the day is Captain Mike Jones.
Fishing out of St. Joseph/Benton Harbor we will be targeting Chinook, and Coho Salmon, Steelhead, Lake Trout, and Brown Trout depending on the season and conditions.
Children are welcome and please let us know of any special needs/considerations you may have ahead of time. The Captain and First Mate will do everything they can to make the trip fun for EVERYONE.
Capt. Mike runs a 36’ Motor yacht that can carry up to 6 passengers, complete with small kitchen and bathroom.
Rods, reels, and all tackle will be provided.
A few items to consider bringing include sunblock, sunglasses, hat, Packed lunch, drinks. Pants are recommended in all weather. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but please avoid hard liquor and glass bottles.
There will be a First Mate on board to help your trip run smoothly. Mates work for tips and it’s customary to offer them a 10–20% if you enjoy the trip.
Before coming aboard, you’ll need to buy a Michigan fishing license for everyone in your group. Michigan DNR offers a website where daily licenses may be purchased anytime prior to your trip.

Birthday fun

I chartered the 7 hour morning fishing trip for our family as a birthday present to my husband. We all caught 2 a piece and even though the fishing slowed down the captain kept trying to find them and working his network to attempt to get more fish for us. We left with 4 coho 1 king and 3 trout. We had fun and watching our kids learn to fish from the boat was a blast and the crew were extremely helpful.

We went out on a 7 hour morning charter. You can tell captain spends his days on the water. My son is 7 and it was his first time fishing. The captain didn't care how many fish we loss as long as my son caught one. He put us on fish and often. By the end of the trip we had 16 on the boat. My son is hooked and we will use him again. Highly recommend.

Captain Mike, first mate Dave and driver Cinnamon were absolutely amazing. They worked their buttons off, did everything they could, threw tons of different lures to get those damn fish to bite and insure that we had a great day. The three of us. Eddie. Cpt Mike was very professional. His boat was spotless and roomy. The gear was top notch. It was very obvious he know the lake and where the fish were. We hooked up our first fish before half the lines were set and he made several adjustments that had immediate impact, we stayed on fish the whole time and left with a full cooler of salmon.

Captain Mike knew exactly where to find the fish and handled everything. Our group was a mix of elderly and teens so Mike had a heavy lift with helping everyone out. He did so graciously with a smile. We caught more fish than we can eat and had an amazing time.
