Spend the day with Ruff’s Custom Coastal Adventures and find out what the fishing in Darien, Jekyll Island, Cumberland Island, and St. Simons Island is all about!
Depending on the time of year, you might hook into Black Drum, Flounder, Redfish, Sharks, Sheepshead, Whiting, Tripletail, Spotted Seatrout, and who knows what else! On these trips, you can expect to bottom fish using light tackle. Capt. Ruff also offers Flounder gigging.
If you’re traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. Snacks are also a good idea so that nobody gets cranky on an empty belly!
Your vessel for the day is a 24’ Carolina Skiff with room for 6 passengers. It has all the essentials. Capt. Ruff will supply rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is included, but be sure to ask about it so you know if you’ll be catching it yourself.
The charter boat covers your fishing license, so all you have to do is show up ready for a good time! Have in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. Your captain will help you follow regulations while you fish.
It’s never a bad idea to bring sunblock (non-spray), bottled water, and sunglasses. If you’d like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but you should avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

July fishing trip

Captain Ruff’s trip was amazing! Even though the water temp was 90 degrees, the captain was very knowledgeable and got us all onto fish. We took our three children and Captain Ruff treated them like family and made sure they had a great time. He got them on sharks, sea trout, black drum, and reds. I would recommend him and his business ten times out of ten. We will definitely be back to fish with him again!

EPIC EXPERIENCE. Hurricane madness.

Where do I start. Captain Ruff is the best charter Captain I ever experienced. The equipment is in great working condition. Easy to use for all levels of fishing experience. His boat is roomy and comfortable. He worked hard to make sure I had the best chance to catch fish. And despite the aftermath of hurricane Helene, he did just that. We released many fish due to being over or under the legal size limit. I could go on. Don't look any further for a charter. Call Captain Ruff. BTW he was raised in the area and his knowledge about the local history made the trip a "combo fishing/historic tour. Cannot wait to book another adventure with Captain Ruff

Inter-coastal with Captain Chris
4 Hour Trip – Inshore/Nearshore on February 15, 2024
I live in the area and when friends or family come to town they always want a fishing trip. We have tried several boat captains over the past three years until we’d found Captain Chris. There is not a more knowledgeable and friendly Captain in the area. Chris is prepared for a day on the water and will not give up or stop after trying a few spots. While riding place to place he’ll tell you what birds you’re seeing - point out the dolphins - explain what the islands are and why each one is important. After a few hours on a boat with Chris you’ll leave with a ton of knowledge, fish in the cooler, and having made a new friend. Chris is really 1 of 1 - you will find no better charter.

Full day trip with Capt Ruff
4 Hour Trip – Inshore/Nearshore on February 10, 2024
Started the day off by showing up at the dock with the boat in the water and ready to go. Capt Ruff told us a lot about the area as we traveled to the first fishing spot. He was able to speak of all types of birds and other animals found out on the water and marsh lands. He had top notch equipment and was very familiar with different ways to catch fish in the area. Talking with him I found out he does a lot of different charters not just fishing. He has a wealth of knowledge to share during his scenic trips, offers sunset cruises, dolphin watching, island trips and much more. I highly recommend booking him for any of your coastal needs.

A Good Day on the Water with Capt. Ruff

If you are looking for a good day you can't beat Capt. Chris Ruff. He is highly knowledgeable and skilled. He readily shares tips and tricks on fishing and will point out the natural wonders as you ride from spot to spot. You will enjoy his company whether you are a novice or seasoned angler.
He knows the area well and we have never come back empty handed. (not a guarantee, it is fishing after-all ) This is because he will pursue the best fishing spot relentlessly. No one will work harder at making sure you catch fish and have fun.
