Muelle de Quepos
Quepos, PU, Costa Rica

There’s a fish with your name on it in Quepos and Wahoo Sport Fishing Quepos will help you catch it! With Captain Melvin at the helm, you’re in knowledgeable and experienced hands.

Top targets include Amberjack, Pacific Barracuda, Mahi Mahi, Broomtail Grouper, Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Roosterfish, Snook, and more if conditions allow. You can expect to do some spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Melvin also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear. For the more adventurous among you, there’s spearfishing.

Capt. Melvin believes in teaching kids to fish while they’re young, so go ahead and bring the whole family along! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are also a good idea to stay fueled throughout your trip!

Capt. Melvin runs a 24’ Center console with space for 4 passengers. It has all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. Capt. Melvin will supply rods and reels for you, along with lures. Live bait is available, but it’s good to ask about this so you know if you’ll be catching it yourself.

There will be a First Mate on board to help your trip run smoothly. It’s customary to tip the Mate 10–20% to show your appreciation.

Before coming aboard, you may be required to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.

It’s never a bad idea to bring sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), and a hat. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks included on board.

A dream made real
3/4 Day Trip – Offshore on July 7, 20251 adult2 children
I wanted to live the offshore fishing experience with my 9 and 11 yo boys. Everything, but everything was perfect… weather, music, captain and assistant smile and skills, the fruits, the beverages, the snacks, the lunch, dolphins, turtles, birds and of course fish. Around 15 catches, 4 different spiecies, around 3 kg of meat that we’ve braught back to the hôtel for the chef to cook for us :) We’ve even caught 3 fish at the same time… no kidding! Oh, Even the Price is good ;) Mucho Gracias Hermanos!

Two Sail Fish at the Same Time!
3/4 Day Trip – Offshore on June 12, 20252 adults
It was a wet and rainy day which we knew could be a possibility. That’s what you sign up for when you go fishing. But Wahoo didn’t disappoint. The captain and deck hand were knowledgeable, courteous, and great hosts always offering food and drinks. And they delivered on the fish! My 12-year old son and I both caught larger sail fish - a first for both of us! And they both hit at the same time which was a unique experience. Such a great trip!

Big Tuna Adventure!
3/4 Day Trip – Offshore on February 22, 20252 adults
We met Captain Melvin and Cheetah Man in the morning and they were very professional. We soon motored off and picked up some sardines and we were off to the races. We opted for offshore fishing and the captain recommended Tuna. We were down! We went 30 miles out and saw incredible marine creatures. We saw a shark breach several times and literally hundreds of spinner dolphins swimming in schools, jumping, frolicking and doing crazy spins. Captain Melvin found a fishing spot we hooked an 80 lb tuna in 5 min! Then we fought it for an hour. We had sashimi boat side while we saw whales breaching nearby. We continued on and caught after several attempts landed another 60 lb tuba. It was absolutely incredible. Splash in some swimming and drinking and it was a perfect day.

This captain is one of the few in Quepos who really understands saltwater fly fishing, and he put me onto a lot of good fish.
Half Day Trip – Inshore on February 5, 20251 adult
I had a great, fun time with Captain Melvin, aka Tony. Took along my 10wt and some flies I hoped would work. “This fly will hook a fish on first cast,” he said, and it happened. Tony worked previously with a strictly fly only fisherman, so his “good cast” was informed praise. He doesn’t carry his own fly tackle, but knows how to help a fly guy catch fish in his territory . We also caught fish on chunk bait (big, very strong jacks) after other fish had broken off the best flies (we learned a lot, quickly), then rounded out the morning fly casting again, this time to monster milkfish—they didn’t like my fly, but just seeing them busting on top was a treat. Tony is friendly, flexible, knows the water and where to find fish based on 10 years’ experience fishing out of Quepos. Boat is clean and comfortable. Captain always happy, encouraging, upbeat. English pretty good— gaps bridged with smiles and love of fishing.

Half Day Trip – Inshore on November 24, 20252 adults2 children
We had the best time with Captain Melvin! He and his first mate are top notch and know where to find the fish. It was our first time and they were very patient, even taught our 11 year old son how to reel in a big one. We will be happily eating Mahi Mahi for days!
