We booked a 2-hour charter with Bear, and I’ll be straight with you—we didn’t catch any fish. But here’s the truth…this was still 100% worth it. First off, Bear is just a genuinely good guy. You can tell right away he cares about the experience, not just the catch. He was upfront, worked hard to get us on fish, and kept moving us to different spots trying to make it happen. It just wasn’t our day—sounds like it was slow for everyone out there. That said, we had absolutely perfect weather, saw massive schools of bait fish, and even a dolphin, which made the trip pretty special. More importantly, this turned into something bigger than fishing. I got two solid hours of uninterrupted time with my two sons—one heading into the Army and the other graduating next year. That kind of time is hard to come by, and this trip gave us exactly what we didn’t even realize we needed. There was a small scheduling hiccup beforehand, but it wasn’t on Bear, and he was ready to go the moment it was our time. He was also incredibly apologetic about the fishing, which honestly says a lot about his character. Fishing isn’t what it was back in the day, especially in Florida—but that’s not on the captain. What matters is effort, attitude, and experience… and Bear delivered on all three. So captain Kenny and I were talking about the Florida heat, and it was HOT, and the Florida tap water is warm enough to take a straight cold shower on a hot day and that’s what we do so my son gets home and tried to take an all cold shower when we got home hah! We caught fish first spot, Kenny is super knowledgeable of the sport. He had some insane casts into the mangroves and under docks, he knew things and taught us things that were definitely worth the trip for sure aside from just catching fish. He taught us about different species living in the causeway, he was able to identify a manatee by the ripples it was making in the surface of the water. He even kept us looking cause he knew it would surface. I almost hooked Kenny and he was completely chill!! Yeah I was the guy who cast with his bail locked!!! lol but he was completely cool. He helped my son learn and let him be hands on which to me was more than what I could have asked for today. My son has a blast today. Just a day we’ll remember hopefully for a long time. Capt. Kenny was exactly what I was hoping fo in taking my son out on our first salt water fishing trip. He was very patient and extremely helpful with everything. He is willing to move around and find the fish. We will be booking with him again next year without a doubt.
