Authentic Nature Tours is all about fishing the stunning waters of Río Lagartos.
Around here it's common to catch Tarpon, Snook, Horse-eye Jack, Almaco Jack, Skipjack, Cobia, Great Barracuda, Jack Crevalle, Spotted Seatrout, and more with any luck. You'll target your catch by spinning, popping, trolling, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Juan Carlos also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
Plus, you can have your catch cleaned.
You'll be casting lines from a 23' fishing boat that can carry up to 2 passengers. It comes with all the essentials no fishing machine can run without.
A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 10–20% tip is customary.
Your fishing license for the day is covered by the charter boat, just show up ready for a good time! Some fish have special regulations, including when you can keep them. Simply ask and your captain can tell you more.
Don't forget to bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunblock (non-spray). There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but you should avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks provided on board.

Fishing tour

We recently went on a fishing tour (even though we didn't book through FishingBooker) and it was an excellent experience. The captain truly knows what he's doing, inspires confidence, and knows the area very well. Everything was very well organized. Highly recommended!

6 Hour Trip – Combined Fishing on December 29, 2025 • 2 adults
We went fishing with this company. It was an inexperienced guide speaking a bit of english who didnt look like he new much about fishing and a young capt who knew more. I asked to go for any speacies that would bite, just to catch something. They insisted on fishing with plastic lures, no live bait. Did not give us good directions on techniques. we tryed a couple of spots, no luck. Good boat, good lunch and drinks.

On the day of your trip, we first took you to one of our most productive fishing areas, especially known for barracuda and juvenile tarpon. This spot is normally very consistent, and even our local captain — whose family has fished these waters for generations — was surprised by the lack of activity that day.
When we saw that the fish were not biting, we decided to move to another area to increase your chances. As a last effort to save the day, we even entered the mangroves to try fly-fishing style casting, even though fly fishing is a separate service and not included in this trip. Unfortunately, fly fishing in this region works best early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and combined with the sudden change in weather and increased swell, the conditions were not favorable.
Despite this, we truly did our best to adapt and try different techniques and locations. We appreciate your positive comments about the boat, food, and drinks, and we take your feedback seriously as we continue improving our service.
We hope you will consider giving us another opportunity in the future.
