Few freshwater fishing opportunities in the States can beat tackling mighty Lake Ontario, drifting its tributaries, and discovering the area’s many rivers and lakes. What you’ll catch will depend on when and where you’re fishing. Expect to hook Chinook and Coho Salmon, Steelhead and Brown Trout, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, and Northern Pike in Lake Ontario, the Oswego River, or the Salmon River at different times of the year. Head to Lake Oneida and you’ll experience premier Walleye fishing, as well as great ice fishing.
When it comes to choosing a trip, it depends on your desires and targets. If you’re fishing in the late summer and early fall, head out on a full day trip for your best shot at Salmon.
