The Walleye capital of the world – Lake Erie – will show you what it means to fill your bags, while the Vermilion River will grant you easy access to the best fishing grounds with more than 3,000 boat slips and ramps.
While Walleye should definitely be on your bucket list, there’s a variety of other freshwater species that inhabit these waters. You can expect to run into anything from White Perch, Smallmouth, and White Bass, to Catfish. Yellow Perch is a fall favorite, and the “Silver Bullet” (Steelhead) is an offshore gem.
If you’re planning a family outing, a half day trip is your best choice, giving you some precious time on the water while also providing you with a nice catch. If you’re up for a challenge, drift or troll for Walleye and Steelhead on a full day trip. Evening and night trips can be a fun choice if you want to experience the lake from a different perspective.

Everyone over 16 should have an Ohio fishing license, and if you’re a non-resident, it only covers you from May until the end of the year. A specific Lake Erie permit is necessary when fishing the lake from January 1 until April 30.
