Walleye is arguably the king of this northern lake and the best time to target this fish is early spring. Musky and Northern Pike hide in quiet, grassy areas. You’ll find surprising numbers of both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass here, given that they prefer warmer water. There’s also a fair amount of Yellow Perch and different types of Trout.

 

Local guides offer either four-hour or eight-hour trips, depending on how long you want to stay on the water. The ice fishing season depends on how thick the ice is, but usually takes place in January or February.

All anglers over 16 years old need to purchase a freshwater fishing license. While most species are open to harvest year round, Musky and Trout must be released from Jan–April. Sturgeon are always limited to catch and release.
