Cptn John’s boat (2019 Sportsman) was immaculate and right off the bat it felt like we’d known him forever! It’s plainly obvious that he not only LOVES what he does, but he also LOVES sharing that with his clients as well. The fishing was a little slow for us (as well as other boat Cptns/guides), but that certainly WAS NOT due to any fault of Cptn John. We still managed 1 big Bull Redfish and 1 Stingray. Heck, we had fun simply catching the sand-trout we used for bait…even when the dolphins stole them upon retrieval!!! We were NOT disappointed in the trip in ANY way and we would HIGHLY recommend booking with Cptn John whenever possible! When we come back to Galveston HE will be the one we will fish with!!!

Caught a lot of black drum, trout, red fish, and sheepshead this time a year, and Captian was amazing! Super nice and fun to be around, works hard and knows great spot and is quick. Had a lot of fun and did a 6 hour, definitely worth it if you are fishing on a boat for the first time, or are looking to keep your catch! Thank you so much!

Phenomenal trip and experience! John is very accommodating, respectful, easy to talk to, knowledgeable among so many other top notch qualities not only as a guide but as a person in general. We got a little turned around and he helped us with directions upon arriving. Stayed on top of resetting and baiting our hooks, un-snagging our lines by the rocks, giving us pointers on dolphins and reeling techniques, managing the aux with some tasteful upbeat music. With his guidance and a little bit of luck we caught over 8 species including a toad fish (the coolest😉) and 3 sharks!! Got a couple keepers, John cleaned and bagged them up for us after we got back to the dock. Nothing but positive things to say. BOOK WITH BIG TEX, you will not regret it.

The boat was adrift on the ocean’s wide sweep,
When a zzzzzz from the line woke the calm from its sleep.
The drag sang loud as the first strike hit,
Water exploded, a shark in a fit.

Then the second reel screamed, its sweet sound arose,
Another shark leapt where the bow cut the flows.
Two anglers battled, their blacktips fought hard,
When the third reel roared, chaos dealt its card.

Lines danced and tangled, a wild frantic race,
Keeping sharks from the hull, each in its place.
The fight raged on, lines stripped by the fins,
For a moment it seemed that the sharks might just win.

Sweat poured, arms ached, the third man gave way,
Handed his rod, for a fourth joined the fray.
Three sharks to the boat, through the struggle and strain,
The nine-year-old cheered, no trace of disdain.

“Forget plain old fishing!” he roared with delight,
“We’re slaying sea monsters, we’ve won this great fight!”
Arms raised to the sky, his voice like a flame,
A victory cry, forever their claim.

This was a great trip and I highly recommend!! I had a 5yo and a 8yo with me in this trip and was more concerned with enjoying the trip as much I would. Captain was fantastic with the kids and they each caught on quick and caught lots of fish! Also I would note that we had looked at taking one of the dolphin tours as well.. but thankfully we did this first. You will see plenty of dolphin on this trip as well to help keep the little ones engaged. The dolphin were literally trying to jump in the boat the kids loved it. As for the fishing we caught lots of fish and good quality as well. I was very pleased with the mix of numbers and quality of fish in this trip! I can’t say enough about the captain very informative and truely loves what he does and loves not just catching fish but taking in all the things that make fishing more than a sport… 10/10
