- Background
- I grew up on the water. In my early teenage years I went offshore for the first time and was literally hooked. In 2008 I started charter fishing and fell in love with taking people out on the ocean to enjoy all there is to offer. Whether fishing inshore, nearshore or offshore chasing big game, every day is different and exciting. I captain our 36ft Revenge custom center console which is our primary charter boat in Southport and Bald Head Island
- Techniques
- We fish a variety of styles to target a variety of species. When offshore in the Gulf Stream, we primarily troll(high speed, lures, ballyhoo). The species we target offshore are Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna, Mahi Mahi. Nearshore 30 miles and closer, trolling live bait is the key to success. Targeted species are King Mackerel, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish We bottom fish in this range as well using a variety of live bait, cut bait and squid to capture a variety of species. Targeted species are grouper, snapper, sea bass, trigger fish and grunts. Nearshore we generally troll spoons for Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish. We drift cut bait to target big sharks.
