thank you for taking the time to review your experience. I’m going to respond to each facet of your title and experience. “it’s his boat”. that is true and I won’t deny it. my experience is what I’m being paid to provide. I don’t take people back to the dock solely based on their desires not being met, however I have had customers become upset that things were not as they expected or even as they demanded and that is when they would be brought back. this is something that has happened a handful of times over a 3 decade long career that has spanned thousands of trips and tens of thousands of clients. I will also say that I am the one who spends thousands of hours on the ocean, full time from sun up to sundown. there are times when people refuse to take my advice. I can also say this is something that has happened to many other captains that I know. we just can’t please everyone all the time. My apologies if you didn’t like me personally. I understand some times it’s just a personality thing between people.

“why are you so quiet”?
you explained that you all were up late the night before etc.
regardless, I try my best and am good at what I do and blessed to live my life on the water. I’m sorry you feel that you wouldn’t give me another chance. that’s too bad. just that very afternoon, the trip that followed yours by 30 min, I had two clients (Teresa and Mark) that had a wonderful time and reviewed 5 stars across the board.

I am one of about 50 boats that fish Oregon inlet and every boat uses metallic spoons on planers. They work very well however they are not guaranteed. It’s our go to method due to their effectiveness however your trip was one where the fish weren’t cooperating. Fishing is in fact driving around and waiting for a bite. Sometimes that takes forever or not at all. As far as baiting hooks, we don’t use bait while trolling unless we’re far offshore (35miles) and are searching for mahi mahi. I regret that you didn’t enjoy the whole experience, however I am happy you found the boat to be nice and the weather beautiful and that you were able to catch a few fish. Thanks again.

These are the times I wished I had cameras onboard! to show the world a contrary viewpoint to what you claim was the “worst charter experience”. Im certain many other captains would agree with me! you were rude from the moment you stepped onboard. although I was upfront with you and your group, that the fishing had been slow for a decent amount of time, you simply stared at me with a blank stare. I explained to you that grouper season is also closed from Jan-may, so trolling would be the best method due to the advantage of covering territory. you may have heard the VHF radio since it was on and loud enough and that many of the other boats were also struggling to catch fish. I’d also like to remind you, that you were the only on who became standoffish while I was able to have a nice conversation with your son and his excellent military career and your other guests as well, who were all pleasant to speak with. you simply sat with a scowl on your face.
you mentioned only changing the baits “once”? you’re incorrect again. I changed several other times as well, not just replacing to fresh baits but to entirely different set ups. lastly, id like to address your statement “listen to a pompous ass complain about his life”. at what point did I complain? not once. I shared stories of traveling the coast, fishing different inlets and areas etc however not once did I “complain”. in 25+ years of full time charter experience, I too have much to say about you however I’ll leave it this. Buy a boat, get a captain’s license, gather up a couple years of experience and start your own charter business and we’ll see how you do!
