From a recent trip with some good weather and tides, I went out on solo session and went 3 for 4 on Bonefish with numerous shots at Permit.

Water Temperatures are up from a pretty cold winter that we had here in the Florida Keys and the big topic in this report is that Permit are up on the flats feeding really well. One of the photos above was a recent client of mine with Beautiful Permit that he caught on a live crab. Permit will more likely be around until the end of March when they will more than likely make their way offshore to spawn. Spawning months are typically April and May. However last year in May, I was finding a decent amount of Permit on the flats during the annual Tarpon migration run. So it's interesting to see what this year will hold on the next upcoming months. Tarpon are starting to show up early in the shallow water areas and channels in the backcountry which could make for a great Tarpon that we have coming up. Bonefish are around but scarce at the moment but should improve as we get further into spring.

Fishing in the channels and Backcountry basins typically brings good fishing this time of year with Spotted Seatrout, Mangrove Snappers, Jacks, Spanish Mackerel and other mixed bag species. This is a great way to get out and bend the rod, catch dinner, and have a great time. There can be some surprises along the way with an occasional Cobia showing up behind the boat, perhaps a Tarpon or a Permit. These are definitely a bonus in my eyes while fishing inshore.

Fall is in the air down here in the Lower Florida Keys and fishing in the backcountry is kicking off to a great start fishing for Seatrout. Along with Seatrout there has been a lot of Ladyfish, Mangrove Snapper, and Spanish Mackeral. In one of the pictures is me holding a nice Seatrout which was 22" long. Seatrout, Mangrove Snapper, and Spanish Mackeral provides great action for kids or family fun fishing. You can bring whatever you catch after a day of fishing to any of the local restaurants here in the keys and they will cook your catch. Snook fishing has been good as well. My last trip that I fished I boated 5 decent size Snook roughly around the 8 lb range. Despite the weather being windy for the past two weeks, I look forward to some nice weather coming up next week and tomorrow which I plan on going out fishing for Permit. Charters are available! Bonefish has been on fire here in the Lower Keys. Lately I 've had some good days out on the water averaging 2 to 4 fish per trip. But all I can say is that I have been seeing quite a few Bonefish and they are hungry. Right now is a great time to get out on the water or perhaps book a charter with me. Tight Lines!

Had three people on the boat for an afternoon trip. Got into a school of at least 100 Bonefish. We ended catching 2 out of the school. Here is a photo of a solid 6 lb Bonefish.
