Captain Eric started off the trip by not even introducing himself or getting to know any of our names.  He was very gruff and seemed pissed off the entire trip.  He did provide raingear for us, since we were unaware until he called us the night before the trip that we would get soaked.  Worst of all, he knew since April that we would not be fishing at Buoy 10, which is the trip I booked in late July for our late August trip.  Buoy 10 was closed by the state without my knowledge months before the day I chose, but we didn’t know until the night before our trip after we had driven over a hundred miles on our way to stay overnight before the trip.  It was far too late to cancel or reschedule.  We went out in the ocean with was multiple times more rough and wet from splashing on the swells in our open boat.  In spite of the raingear, mine leaked so I was soaked for 12 hours, since I didn’t bring a change of clothes.  We also had 2 first-time fishermen in our group, and he really gave them no tips or advice on how to reel in a fish, causing one lost fish.  We did get three fish into the boat with 2 being keepers, so he knew how to put us onto the fish, but had I known well in advance that this was an ocean trip instead of a river trip, I would have cancelled and booked a different day.  With the boat slamming on the swells and wide open with no cover or cabin, it was like someone throwing a glass of water on you every 10 seconds . . . and the weather was actually not too windy and overcast, so if wasn’t from any rain.  My back was in pain from slamming so hard for over a half hour going out and a half hour coming back from ocean waters.  I’m grateful that we did get to keep a king and a coho, but I just wanted to fish at the smoother mouth of the river at buoy 10.  This was the roughest and wettest day with the grumpiest captain that I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve been out on 20-30 charters.  Not a fun experience overall.

Eric gave us a great day of fishing and as an extra bonus he had placed crab pots the night before so we feasted on crab at the end of the day.

Spent 2 days with captain Eric salmon fishing Tillamook. The boat and captain were great. Nice boat, good gear and good times.
