- Background
- I come from a long line of commercial fishermen from the North coast of Cuba. I started commercial fishing as a young man as a crew member on board my father's commercial fishing vessel in 1978. I acquired my first commercial fishing vessel in 1982 and I've been a self-employed fisherman ever since. Having been in these waters since 1978 and gaining the knowledge required, I began my flats fishing charter business in 1988 and have fished the shallow waters from Long Key all the way to the Marquesas islands west of Key West and Florida Bay. Fishing is in my blood and I wanted to carry the traditions of my ancestors and be able to pass on this knowledge and conservation ethics to the coming generations in our family and with all of the clients that I meet.
- Techniques
- My specialty has always been sight casting (or hunting) for shallow water species like Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Barracuda, Sharks and so many other species that our beautiful clear waters offer us here in the Florida Keys. I cater both to the inexperienced as well as the experienced anglers either with spin fishing gear or casting a fly rod. I also enjoy taking kids fishing and I am a very patient Captain. I have been operating a custom flats boat all along and will be receiving delivery of a brand new 2019 Crevalle 24 foot Bay boat by mid-March 2019. This new fishing machine will have all brand new electronics and top of the line equipment and will offer more comfort for me and my clients and be able to venture out further into Florida Bay and also the Reef as well as continuing to fish the very shallow waters that I love to fish. I will be able to target bigger gamefish like Cobia, Grouper, Large snappers and even sailfish and other big game on the reef on calm days.
