With dozens and dozens of boats fishing the sea of Cortez due to rough seas in the pacific, the Captain and the crew had some tough going.  We search for dorado, but Not a fish for 3.5 hours, except 1 bite, THEN the crew hooked us up on a 150 lb striped Marlin.  We had marlin sashimi on the boat as they filleted.  Then we took a big chunk home for some ceviche and marlin steaks to grill.  Writing this review before grilling, but I have confidence that Cap’t Marco gave us the right recipe.  Thank Cap’t Marco, Juan, and Jose.

The Captain and crew were purely transactional.  We are a family of four (kids ages 13 and 16) and were excited for a fun day.  We were celebrating my son’s 16th birthday with the fishing trip, when sharing this captain and crew didn’t acknowledge it.  We don’t expect bubbly easy going personalities such as ourselves but we did hope for some level of engagement/personality from the crew to show they were excited to show us a good time on the water and hopefully catch some fish.
What really lead to a disappointing day I believe was my mistake in tipping at the beginning which I fully recognized this is my mistake. When making my payment prior to leaving the dock I had the tip of 22% bundled in this , I should have removed this before handing over the cash.  Giving the tip upfront allowed for the captain and crew to sit back and not engage with us and hardly work to catch fish, they took full advantage of this. We caught 2 smaller fish and 2, tips fish, I believe was the name, within the first hour right off shore. After this the remaining 4 hours of our trip the captain and crew sat up top the fly bridge for nearly all that time.  We sat below watching the lines in the water. We understand if the fish aren’t biting but in previous fishing experiences we’ve seen crew “working” and engaging … checking bait, switching out bait, really anything to try to get a catch.  This was never done, the two sat up top cruising at a faster than normal clip. We hooked a marlin at one point but the crew were up top and by the time he got down to grab the pole the fish had gotten away.  Again, we understand if the fish aren’t biting but Captain and crew could have made an effort to engage with our family to at least ensure we still had an enjoyable day on the water.
We also learned the captain and crew do both own the boat but rather rented it.  This is absolutely fine but know the high fee of a 5 hour fishing outing for $1,000 is because of the boat rental NOT captain/crew experience.
Really bummer of a 16th birthday fishing outing.

Even though the bite was slow, Captain Marco and his mate Juan worked hard to find fish. Continuously adjusting lines in search of the fish’s appetite. Boated fish and enjoyed whales passing by. We couldn’t ask for a better effort while spending the day dragging baits. Our captain even gave an outstanding restaurant recommendation to cook our fish. We try to fish everywhere we travel and our experience was great. We will be back.
