Our family went out for the 4 hour trip. We only caught 1 barracuda and that was a bit disappointing. The first hand was nice and took part of our party snorkeling that was more of a highlight. The captain really never spoke at all? All in all any day fishing is good, but wasn’t really impressed.

I was super disappointed with the choice I made to book with this company.
I emailed the captain the night before when I heard it was going to be very windy the next day. I never saw any return emails so I thought we were probably going anyway.  I also didn’t want to not show up so I would be charged the rest of the trip.

l got to the meeting spot early 12:15 and had taken an Uber from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen that cost 70.00 USD or 1300 pesos.  I waited around, called a couple of numbers, and finally got through. On the fourth call, the captain answered and said that we weren’t going. Needless to say I was very annoyed and upset with the wasted time and money. I feel I should really be refunded the Uber ride and an another taxi ride of 1400 pesos ride home money.

I won’t say I don’t recommend this company I would just say, buyer beware.  Luckily, I did get my deposit returned.

Captain is great but boat owner should not be allowed to charter.

Short story-
Minimal interaction with guests, particularly because we are not fluent Spanish speakers.
Only 1 person is allowed to “fish” at a time. (Fishing is a loose term for sitting in the chair and only being allowed to touch the reel 2x over the 6 hours.)
Boat is too small for 6 adults + 2 crew.
Overcharged $63 due to exorbitant exchange rate

Longer version-
Booked a 6 hour trip with Benjamin for 6 people. Paid the 20% online and knew we would be charged a 5% fee on the remaining balance if paying with a credit card.

The boat is not large enough to fit 6+2. Only 1 person was allowed to fish at a time. The chair is worn out (wobbly and uncomfortable). No cushions- uncomfortable over the course of many hours. One person had to sit on a cooler, 2 on the bench, two on the bow. The 6th person was also instructed to sit on the bench until we asked to let him sit in the back with the poles.

We wanted to deep sea fish. The outriggers were not really used and the bait poles in the back were skimping across the surface. An attempt to catch fish seems to be made as the lures were changed a couple of time in the first few hours of trolling.

The first mate practically did all of the fishing himself. My teenage son was allowed to touch the pole 2x during the trip. He did successfully reel in a dorado (mahi mahi), so he was excited.

After trolling for 4 hours, we were asked if we wanted to snorkel. We declined because we hadn’t had but 1 unsuccessful bite and being from an inland state, we were more interested in fishing. (We do know it’s fishing, not biting.) Once we opted for this, the first mate made no other attempts to bait/change the lures. Outriggers remained out, but the bait on these lines was left at surface level.

The captain spent most of the morning on his cell phone. Seriously 3 hours at least. No interaction with the group. The first mate did talk to my son, which he really appreciated. After my son caught his fish, my dad took a turn. No interaction whatsoever for the 1.5 hours he sat in the chair. The 2 crew spent this time talking to each other in Spanish.

We requested ceviche. I saw the ingredients in the cooler, but none was made. (Not even with the dorado.)
We were offered drinks a couple of times, but were unable to easily access the cooler because it was being used as a seat.

The icing on the cake was being overcharged. Our trip was $410 USD. Again we knew there would be a 5% fee added if we used a credit card for the remaining balance. $410 - $82 (20% down) = $328 USD + 5% fee = $344.40 USD, not including tip. When they processed our card, a $19 MXN peso (conversion) fee/$USD was added, then 5% fee. This totaled $391.82 USD. For a total trip cost of $473.82. $63.82 USD more than the booked price.

When I addressed it with Benjamin, he said the “owner” sets the fee (the $19 MXN pesos (current exchange rate is $16)) and he couldn’t do anything about it. We proceeded to pay a cash tip.

When I contacted Fishing Booker (excellent customer service!), they immediately began investigating. Reported that the captain said we agreed to a $40 tip being added to the card. I explained that had not been the case and reiterated that the contract was for $410 USD, not the $473 we were ultimately charged. After several back and forth with FB, Benjamin contacted me and acknowledge the $19 MXN conversion fee. You were charged “19 pesos for the pain of one dollar”. Once I forwarded this screen shot, we were finally offered $40 USD. Not the entire amount, but was acceptable because we had tipped slightly less than we originally planned and figured it made up the difference.

In the end, it seemed as if they had no intention of giving us the mahi mahi. (We had to ask after we disembarked.) We had to also ask that they would gut/clean it.

The chef at our resort’s restaurant prepared the fish and it tasted amazing.

Boat in bad condition, they need to update a 2 by 20 for a seat when you’re in 10 plus ft waves and canopy is held on by a couple twine strings so there is no where to grab onto when you’re being tossed around. Very very poor boat.
