I have been on the water from the time I was several months old. I grew up fishing all of the Lakes around DFW and southern Oklahoma with my dad. I currently live right next to Lake Lewisville and fish every moment I can get and love to share my knowledge of the lake and targeted species with clients. My 2nd trip as a guide was with a family of 4, their teenage son walked into my boat and saw that I was barefooted while going over a few rules and safety items on the boat, he looked at his family very excited and informed them that their captain was barefoot and insisted that meant they were going to catch a lot of fish on that particular day. From that moment Barefoot Guide Service was born.
Techniques
I love chasing by hybrid- striper first thing in the morning and once that bite dies off I like to focus on the white bass or go and park on the brush piles and find the crappie. Live bait is key a majority of the year but we will do whatever the fish tell us that they want.

Winter fishing continues to be productive, with hybrid striped bass and white bass being caught consistently using dead-sticking techniques. As water temperatures remain cold, fish are holding deeper and staying close to bait, making slower presentations the key to success. Most of the action is coming from deep water along channels, flats, and areas where shad are concentrated. Fish are often suspended or tight to the bottom, and electronics are essential for staying on active schools. The bite has been subtle, with many strikes showing up as light taps or slight pressure rather than aggressive hits. Dead-sticking flukes has been the most effective approach. Letting the bait sit motionless in the strike zone has outperformed faster jigging, as fish are less willing to chase in cold water. Once hooked, hybrids in particular are putting up strong fights. This winter pattern should remain consistent through the colder months, making it a great time to target numbers of white bass and quality hybrid stripers for anglers willing to slow down and fish methodically.

The hybrid bite has been on fire lately โ€” and itโ€™s all about the live bait. Most mornings have kicked off fast, with big, hard-pulling hybrids crushing shad over humps and mid-lake structure. Once you find them, the action doesnโ€™t take long to get chaotic โ€” doubles, triples, bent rods, and happy clients. The live-bait pattern has been steady through late morning, especially when weโ€™ve got a little breeze and some current moving. Stay mobile and donโ€™t be afraid to hop spot to spot โ€” the fish are grouped tight, and when you find the right pile, itโ€™s game on. Then comes the best part of the dayโ€ฆ that last hour before sunset. When the sun starts to drop, itโ€™s time to put the bait away and pick up a rod with a lure. The hybrids have been pushing shallow onto flats chasing shad, and the evening lure bite has been fantastic. Swimbaits, topwaters, and small spoons have all been producing, especially when birds start to show you the way. If youโ€™ve been waiting for that fall hybrid bite โ€” itโ€™s here. Mornings are made for bait; evenings are made for artificials. It doesnโ€™t get much better than this.

It has felt like a classic game of cat-and-mouse out there, but the rods stayed bent and the coolers filled up. The action has been steady, and the fish are fired up again. May hybrid fishing has arrived and it has been on from the word go! Every tactic has been working, swim baits, jigging bottom as well as live bait. These fish are pissed off and fighting hard. We have been busy over the course of thelast week. There has been plenty pole bending and drag stripping to go around! The hybrid bite has been phenomenal in the evenings and we have had sucess on live bait, jigging spoons as well as casting swim baits. The next 2.5 months are some of the best fishing of the year and there can be times of chaos with every rod in the boat hooked up. Donโ€™t miss out!
