Met up with Captain Jeff at the marina to start our day bright and early. His boat is nice, clean, and organized. His honesty up front that it has been tough fishing the week or so was appreciated. We told him we were here to turn his luck around!  He was willing to do whatever it took to get us on fish, even if that ment going 40 miles out, which he did. First mate Jose was hustling too, dropping lines, switching lures, swapping fresh bait. His abilty to coach you reeling in fish was top notch. The lunch offered to us was homemade deliciousness! And of course we broke Captain Jeff’s dry spell, we had multiple hook ups and ended up landing four sailfish!

I’ve spent decades chasing billfish and tuna on blue water all over the world, and I can say without hesitation that nobody works harder to put you on fish than Captain Jeff and deckhand Jose with Bucket List Sport Fishing in Quepos. These guys are relentless (honestly, they should just rename the boat “Relentless” because that’s exactly what they are). From the moment lines are in the water until the sun drops, they never stop fine-tuning spreads, reading the ocean, and grinding for every single bite. Their knowledge of the local bite, seamanship, and pure hustle is off the charts. If you want a captain and mate who are 100% dedicated to making your day epic, book these two – you will not find a harder-working, more fish-obsessed team on the dock.

Jeff and Jose are absolutely outstanding. They went above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable experience. They were fully prepared based on the notes I sent about wanting to keep some of the fish and the specific species I hoped to catch. I was a bit anxious about how I’d store and travel home with the fish, but Jeff had everything handled before I even asked. All I had to do was swing by and pick up the perfectly frozen and professionally packed fish on my way to the airport.

Last spring my son, his best friend and I filled our cooler and ate tuna for almost a week before we brought the rest home. That fishing trip was the most amazing thing ever!!!!!
Decided that we had to go out with Jeff and Jose again this year and again, they didn’t disappoint!
I didn’t think that catching a 350lb 120-130inch long marlin was on my bucket list until it had been caught and released. That bad boy was absolutely amazing and challenging to caught! Life time memories made again and it’s totally because Jeff and Jose are the best!!!!!
Great food, great vibes and unforgettable experiences made two years in a row. We will be back again as soon as we can and there isn’t another boat or team that we would consider going out with. I just hope they have room for us next year in their schedule!!!!!

The trip was a 2/3 day trip offshore. Jeff and Jose were great, they both knew their stuff and helped me to understand what it is they do before, during and after the trips. Jeff explained to me what it is he looks for whilst up top searching for the fish or potential areas they could be. His experience as a fisherman shone through and so to with Jose who used to spend months at sea as his previous job. You couldn’t really ask for more fishing knowledge on the boat. You are in good hands. We managed 5 fish over the day, with two blue marlin, and two sailfish brought to the boat. The one that got away was a 300-400 lb black marlin which stayed on the line long enough for me to feel the absolute power and for it to jump clear of the water at about 80-90 m from the boat before she spat the hook. The biggest fish caught but not pictured was a the largest blue marlin of the day. She decided the sailfish bait was hers though, and being on a 60 lb leader meant a back breaking hour of careful fight before we had her alongside, but she still had too much energy left and we simply couldn’t keep her there to grab. She bust the line but I was happy we got her in. All fish were revived and swam off successfully.
Knowing that despite your best prep, bait and conditions can still produce blanks from time to time I was prepared for this outcome, but as Jeff said ‘I was one lucky mother…........!’ to get the experience I did for my first ever session at this type of fishing. I think my luck was choosing this boat, with Jeff experience and Jose’s hard work down the bottom. He didn’t stop moving around getting things in place. When I return to Quepos, CR, I will returning to see if we cant bump into The One that Got Away!
