We were looking for a half day guided inshore fishing trip out of Jekyll Island GA to target bull redfish. Several options were available, but Spartina offered both light tackle and fly fishing opportunities which we wanted. The photos promised beautiful fish - the big question was could we catch one of those gorgeous reds. I have medical issues, and messaged the Captain to make sure that he was aware of those and OK with my physical situation.  He reassured us we’d be fine. We used the booking app to set the date and dialogue. Captain Tim was prompt responding to queries and made slight rendezvous adjustments to minimize travel time on the water - his instructions were clear and we had no problem connecting at the designated dock.
Captain Tim’s local knowledge of the local waters is extensive, and he understands the feeding behaviours of target species as well.  He quickly assessed our fishing skills (so-so), gave us clear and encouraging coaching, and before we knew it we were catching fish. I wont lie - the fishing was not non stop action - we had to work and pay attention - but Captain Tim’s patience and positive encouragement paid off that afternoon. He was totally focused on giving us every opportunity to catch quality fish - and it was very clear that he was enjoying the challenge to fulfill our dreams.
I caught the beautiful bull red I wanted - a trophy photo I’ll cherish forever, my wife caught her bull red dream fish with amazing tail spots, and we caught speckled trout (one gator!) and black drum as well. Throughout, Captain Tim entertained us with local history, fishing lore, and those insights borne of detailed observation that leave memories.
The experience with Spartina was easily the best we’ve ever had, and we’d probably say the same thing even if we hadn’t caught fish - the comaradarie on board was that good.

My 12 year old daughter and I went out with Capt. Tim.  He had us catching fish within 2 minutes of the first cast and it didn’t let up until we ran out of shrimp.  We caught nearly 60 trout including over 15 keeper size.  Capt. Tim was attentive and fun. He kept my daughter reeling in fish all afternoon.  Would definitely go out with him again.

Also had one tagged drum to report to GA DNR to claim our reward.

Even through adverse conditions (bait and weather) he still put us on fish, fished the way we wanted and had a blast! Definitely plan to cal captain Tim when we’re back

Capt. Tim hit all the marks - he was great with the kids and taught dad a few things too. A tough weather day but caltain still got us some fish.
