I tried contacting this customer to find out why he gave me a negative review, but never heard back from him. From the moment the guy showed up at the dock to get on the boat, he seemed to be in a bad mood. I can only speculate why he didn’t have a good time on the water. He’s a local and maybe he’s upset because I didn’t take him to any of my “honey holes”. Don’t feel bad, most guides don’t take locals to their secret fishing spots.
We caught and released a few nice Specks ( customer said he didn’t want to keep any fish). I will say, that if I’d been able to get some live shrimp, the trip would have probably been more productive. Unfortunately, every bait shop around Mobile and Baldwin county did not have any live shrimp during that time. So I got on the water at 4:00am to catch my own bait. I managed to only catch a dozen live shrimp, but caught 60+ live croakers.
I took the customer to the first fishing area and he caught some specks using what few live shrimp I had. After the shrimp was gone, I took him to another location where I’d been recently catching nice Specks using croakers for bait. When we first arrived, we caught a couple nice Specks. Then large schools of Spanish, Bluefish, and Ladyfish moved into the area and wrecked our party. We didn’t catch anymore trout at that location because the Spanish would nail our baits as soon as it hit the water. I moved to another location to get away from the Spanish and other bait snatchers, but same outcome.
A few hours into the trip, the customer said he wasn’t feeling well and was hot. He asked me to take him back to the dock.
Since he never responded to my texts when I asked him about the negative review, I wanted to tell my account of that day.
