Background: I have been fishing off of the California and Mexican coast for over 30 years. We are so lucky to have one of the healthiest fisheries in the world. At any time tuna upwards of 300 lbs can show up 15 miles from home. Yellowtail and Mahi continue to arrive in our waters starting in April and staying until November. Techniques: We will always have live sardines or anchovies on our trips. Depending on the time of year and what fish are around, there are many methods we may use. For big bluefin tuna I enjoy flying a balloon with a flying fish. When we are offshore and paddy hoping, fly line sardines and throwing iron tend to get it done. While fishing the Coronado Islands for yellowtail and tuna we have had huge success slow trolling live sardines...

Guys fishing was nonstop for four hours straight on the 9 mile bank. Really really really good stuff for your freezer for the winter. Come on out let’s go before the weather changes..

Guys the fishing is pretty darn good. I’m booked for October 12 Sunday just opened up. These bluefin are close to home and it’s excellent fishing. Our fish have been ranging between 70 and 150 pounds. Now is the time to go.

Big tuna are close to home

We got this fish Friday only 30 miles from home. Lots of opportunity. That you are further down and they’re on their way. But now October looks like it’s gonna be great. This one weighed in at 146 pounds.

Yellowfin are starting to show up

Hey guys, September, and October are usually great months for tuna and yellowtail. Today the yellowfin have been found in our local waters. Eight hour trip will find them. Unlike bluefin when they’re hungry, they will buy full speed wide open . Some of my favorite Fishing, My weekends are full, but the weekdays are pretty open. Let’s go.

Coronado Islands are biting

Guys, I’ve been on three trips to the Coronado’s in the past three days. Every trip is getting better and better. Our yellowtail are going 25 to 30 pounds. The blue Funtuna are going 35 to 40 pounds. Flat calm conditions by the island. Book your trip now it’s only gonna be here a few more weeks.

Fishing with Captain Ron was a blast. He’s got an great sense of humor but is serious about getting his clients fish. I took my son and family out and Captain Ron kept us on the fish trail. Whenever a location or method stopped being productive, he switched up and got us back on track. A day of lifetime memories. Highly recommend for families or a guys’ trip.

The trip did begin with struggles to get bites at kelp patties and there were few kelp patties, as well. Continue venturing into deeper water up to 40 miles from shore. Not Tuna or yellowtail. Begin return back toward shore and caught some Rockfish. It seemed that tuna went much further out (60-80 miles). This would have required an overnight trip. July seems to be hit and miss within 20-40 miles of ocean. Capt Ron worked to keep our spirits high. Spent a lot of time searching and should have... More
