- Background
- As a kid, I was "wasting" my time fishing ponds around my hometown Pazin, which was the only "sea" I could reach by bike. Then, 25 years ago, my father bought a boat which changed everything. Soon, I was competing on the national level, first as a diver (Croatian champion) and later as a spearfisherman. In 2005, I bought my first boat and started to fish only with artificial lures. As a "lure man," the wish for catching Tuna with the spinning rod was strong enough to keep me fishing 20+ days/month no matter the conditions, and finally, in 2015, the results showed up when I hooked 17 Tunas in one single day. I was lucky enough to fish with one of the best Tuna fishermen in the Adriatic Sea, to learn fast, and to enter the big game even faster by hooking up on 100+ Tunas in one season. The latest news is that I was fishing 3 continents in the last 7 months landing close to record or record fish in all three of them. Currently holding a record for biggest Dogtooth Tuna ever landed with rod and reel in Sudan.
- Techniques
- My favorite technique is popping and spinning for a big fish like Tuna. But my obsession right now is sea fly fishing which is a new thing in Croatia... or it will be a new thing here cause no one is doing it, yet. All in all I'm not a slave to any technique, I like to do what works at a certain moment or time of year and always consier the target species I decide to fish for.
