Imagine running 15 miles into the Chesapeake Bay and coming across a chain of uninhabited islands full of fish.... sounds to good to be true? Not at all. Spring has arrived and this is a common picture of what you can expect when we set out in the morning on your fishing adventure. The views alone of the vast remoteness, stretches of grass banks and random sand islands will make you forget that you are here to catch fish. Curiosity of the creation of what seems to be a fishing promised land dropped in the middle of a forgotten part of the Chesapeake, rolls through your mind as you cast a Clouser minnow to pristine current rips where hungry Stiped Bass and Speckled Trout await. May and June provide some of the best fly fishing opportunities of the season. Perfect water temperatures bring hungry fish close to shore and structures to feed on baitfish and crabs heading to the grasses to shed. I will target large grass flats in a sight fishing approach to cruising fish looking for an easy meal. I will also looks for tide rips coming around points of the islands, these rips create deep water channels that the fish use to ambush their prey. Structure can also be very productive this time of year, a stone bulk head that has failed its purpose and allowed the island shore to erode from be hind it, or an old sunken boat that lays just below the surface create disruptions in current flow that fish will use to their advantage when looking for a meal. I had the privilege of taking an amazing father and son out for a 4 hour afternoon trip this past weekend. We had a great time with beautiful weather conditions and we found a few hungry fish! the shallow water bite is doing very well right now. We were throwing soft plastics and crankbaits to different creeks mouths and submerged structure along the shore producing Stiped Bass up to 27"

We have finally arrived to my favorite part of the fishing season here in Southern Maryland. Shallow shallows shallow!! The water temperatures have finally hit that magic number that bring the Striped Bass and Speckled Trout into the near shore structures and grass flats to ambush prey. Our trips currently consist of running and gunning the remote islands of the Chesapeake Bay, chasing tide currents and rips with light tackle jigs and fly fishing gear. This is a great time to knock the dust off of those fly rods and hook up to some great quality fish in these beautiful waters. Of course I provide all the tackle if you do not have your own gear you want to bring. I use custom built spinning rods that provide great action on these shallow water fish, and TFO fly fishing rods paired with Sage reels and custom tied fly's ready and waiting to put in your hand for a great day on the water! Spring is right around the corner and I am extremely excited to get back to some nice warm temperatures! During the month of April I will be fishing for Speckled Trout and Perch around remote islands in the Chesapeake Bay and Rivers. The Chesapeake Bay holds some pretty impressive Speckled Trout. If you are looking to catch a new personal best size "Spec" this is the time of year you want to get out and give it a try. As we move into May and June the Chesapeake Bay opens back up to Striped Bass fishing, giving us the opportunity to catch Stripers and Specs at the same time. Later in June we will expect to see some Bluefish and Red Drum show up as well. 2023 fishing season is about to take off don't miss your chance to get on the water and catch some fish!

As the heart of winter has set in I have moved the boat home for maintenance for the 2023 season. I am very excited to get back on the water beginning in April in search for Speckled Trout. From there we will begin our regular season which runs from May 1st through the end of December. To say the 2022 season was great would be an understatement! I had the privilege of meeting many new clients which I hope to see again in the 2023 season. I had the honor of guiding multiple clients to there personal best catches, Striped Bass, Red Drum and Cobia were of top targets and they did not disappoint. In closing we are seeing a very mild winter so far here in Maryland which gives me high hopes for an early run of fish in the shallows. December has started off with a wide open Striper bite. I expect this bite to last through much of January. Right now I have fish in the 20"-30" Range that are fat healthy and hard fighting! Jigging metal spoons are producing lots of action but soft plastics have been pulling the better grade of fish.
