We stopped at a tide rip on our way back to the dock. The tide rip was alive with birds, hundreds of seabirds. The birds were eating sand eels that were getting pushed to the surface by Atlantic mackerel. It was like a scene from a nature show. This is why I love fishing. The scene.

The past four trips we've been having a lot of fun with bluefish. They'e really moved onto the corners of Block Island. Our customers are having a blast fishing with light gear. I love bluefish. I came of age with bluefish in the 1980s---tons of people did back then. Something about their yellow eyes and the smell of them when they come clean from the ocean, an almost citrus smell. Any way, come out with us. These fish most definitely have tails and can leave our waters in a hurry.

This has been a good week. The fish have come fairly easy. We've been getting the bass and blues both trolling and drift fishing with jigs and soft plastics. People love it. There has been fog and some mist but that is fine. It's the catching of fish and the beauty of the sea that people care about and remember. Bottom fishing has been more of a challenge. The big sea bass and fluke just are settled in yet in my area. But that will come.

Had five guys from upstate New York. The wanted bass and blues on light tackle, casting and jigging. Well we found some fish that were willing. For a good amount of the falling tide we had many fish. Everyone caught. I would call it a blitz. One fish after another. Gulls were feeding, fish were feeding and we all had a great time.

It's been fun. We've had some good people one the boat. They had a blast, catching striped bass and blues under the famous SouthEast Lighthouse off Block Island. The bottom fishing has been a challenge-- those fish haven't really filled in a settled down yet. Soon. But until then we'll relish in catching stripers and blues. We love these fish. Good to eat too.

The striped bass fishing is the best bet right now. Block Island has some beautiful fish that have just showed up from the west. A large pile of sand eels, a favorite food of the striped bass, have also arrived inshore in large numbers. The bait should keep the stripers around for some time. There are a few bluefish mixed in with the bass but not too many. Fluke fishing has been a bit of a grind. Sea bass, another food favorite, opens on June 18th. See you soon. John.
