Well it has been a few days since my last report but not much has changed except for the weather. We got our first major cold front that dropped the water temps into the 50's for a few days which made fishing tough but we still managed to find some hungry fish each day. Luckily for us here in Miami cold weather does usually not last that long and it was not to long before the water temps started to warm back up and so did the fishing. In Biscayne bay we are still catching plenty of mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, porgies, and some grouper and barracudas. The hot bite still has come from the porgies and we are catching them up to 7lbs. We are still catching mutton snapper everytime we go out but most have been undersized, but with spring not to far away it's only a matter of time before the big boys show back up again. The tarpon bite around the inlets and bridges around miami beach is starting to pick up and we have been having fun hooking and catching these amazing fish. In flamingo we are still catching snook,redfish, and black drum on every trip. This week I only had one trip but it was a good one. I fished out of flamingo this week and it has been a couple months since I have been down there and I had forgot just how beautiful it is. It was a nice change of pace to fish somewhere other then Biscayne bay and I can't think of a better place then Flamingo. Between the drive through Everglades national park to get to the boat ramp and then all of the breathtaking scenery while you are on the water is what makes it a truly magical place. The morning started off with a nice boat ride through some thick fog to get to our first spot. The fog was so thick in the morning you could only see about 20 yards in front of the boat. The entire boat ride you could not see anything until all of a sudden the mangrove shorelines seemed to come out of no where letting us know we had made it. The first spot did not produce much and after a few minutes we picked and moved to our next spot. On the first cast we hook up to a nice Snook that weighed over 10lbs but as we got the snook boat side before I could net it and get it into the boat a bull shark came out of no where and bit the fish clean in half right in front of us. It was heartbreakng to see that happen to the fish but that's all part of fishing in flamingo and happens more then you would like. On our second cast we hook up to a nice size red fish that gave us a good fight before we got it to the boat for a quick pick and release. After releasing the red fish we proceeded to catch red fish and black drum on just about every cast for the next our or so. Most of the fish were around 20 inches, not monsters but they kept the rods bent and everyone busy fighting fish. We fished a couple more spots before we headed in and caught more small black drum, lady fish and the elusive cat fish. The weather was beautiful and the fishing was just as good and it ended up being a good day on the water. Well the weather is still good for this time of the year and the fishing is still red hot. On my past trips we have had no trouble finding the fish and putting some in the cooler for dinner. Lately we have been targeting yellow jacks, porgys,and mutton snapper. The porgy bite still remains the best and we are catching plenty of them and some nice ones as well. We are also catching plenty of mutton snapper but unfortunately most of them have been to small to keep. The yellow jacks have showed back up and they are great fighters and good table fare as well. We finally got our first cold front which dropped the water temps some and got the fish moving around like they should be. It's a new year and I can't think of a better way to get it started then to go fishing. I have been on the water the past three days and so far this year the fishing is still hot. The mutton snapper bite is starting to pick back up and we are catching them of all sizes. We got our first cold front of the year finally and hopefully the drop in temperature will bring some of the bigger mutton snappers back inshore. The hot bite lately has come from the Porgys. They are hard fighters when hooked and an even more delicious on the table. Most people don't realize it but there meat is white and flacky and is one of my favorite to eat. We have also been catching some nice mangrove snapper and a few yellow jacks hear and there. The strange thing to me is that we are still finding plenty of bait and having no problem filling the livewell but the fish have been preffering shrimp over a live pilchard. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason as to what the fish will want to eat but if you don't have what they want it will be tuff catching anything. Was on the water several times during Christmas week and the fishing has been great. It has been a little breezy lately but like I said before, when it comes to inshore fishing that is nothing to worry about. Even if it's blowing 25mph we can find a place to fish that will be calm and comfortable. This week the Mutton snapper bite has picked back up and we caught them on just about every trip. They have been anywhere from not legal size to over 10lbs and they are a blast to catch and even better to eat. We also caught our share of Barracudas and some nice Mangrove snapper as well. For some reason we did not catch any Yellow jacks this week but I'm sure it won't be long till they show up again. The bait is still every where and we are having no trouble loading the live well with a couple throws of the cast net. Other then the winds blowing a little bit the fishing has been very good. If the winds would just calm down some it will make things perfect but you can't always get what you want. But the fishing is good so I can't really complain. BOOK YOUR TRIP TODAY!!!!!!! Capt. Headed out with some repeat customers who were looking to catch a few fish to take home for dinner. The day started out with us catching more bait with one throw of the cast net then we could use. After loading up on bait we made a short run to our first spot. We dropped anchor and started live chumming with the bait we had and it was not long before were hooked up. The first couple fish were some nice yellow jacks in the 10lb range. After that we proceeded to catch a few more yellow jacks, a nice black grouper, and two of the biggest mutton snappers I have caught in the finger channels. One was around 10lbs and the other was close to 15lbs. All in all a good day on the water. As the water temps start to cool off we should see the fishing start to pick up. BOOK YOUR TRIP TODAY!!!!!
