This is our second trip on Salt Grit with Capt. Ches. We would’ve been fine trolling for Mackerel and Blue Fish - as last time in late June of 2022 we had amazing time trolling & catching Dolphinfish - the same way. But he took us up the coast to bottom fish and my Sons loved catching Sea Bass! We tried to go after Cobia - but being this early (May 2024) our luck did not hold up! Captain Matt was wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. His guidance with our children made for a wonderful experience for everyone. The 2 and half hour trip was the perfect amount of time for the kiddos to enjoy themselves and not get bored. Captain Matt was able to put us on some drum, allowing our 9 year old the experience of reeling two of them in. Highly recommend anyone with children looking to experience a fishing charter to book with Captain Matt.

During set up I informed Capt Matt that most of my group were fist timers who were terrified of getting seasick. He responded by setting up a trip that kept us in calm parts of the sound where rocking was slow but fishing was great. He was VERY tolerant and helpful instructing our newbies. We brought home our limit of speckled trout (after releasing the littler ones). You HAVE to fish with Capt. Matt!! Many thanks!!

The ocean was rough on our trip. But we fished the inlet and the sound. Capt. Ches recommended that we fished the sounds. Safety was priority. We still caught fish. Capt Ches went above and beyond our expectations of fishing for several types (at least 5) of fish, since we couldn’t go out to sea..the waves made my wife sick. 4 foot swells was really rough. Considering the conditions, we still caught fish! We will definitely call on him again to take us out. Meer

The day started out with rain and some not very hungry speckled trout. After a couple hours of slow fishing, Captain Matt took us to the Oregon inlet where we had a fantastic time catching hug Reds. My son-in-law Paul caught a 43 inch citation Redfish. Best fishing day of his life!! Would highly recommend Captain Matt and the East Way team…
