I booked two days fishing for a group of six, first day a combo of trolling and bottom fishing, the second was to be a full day bottom fishing…all confirmed by email.
The first day trolling started positively, the boat was in good shape and well equipped with good tackle.
After a few hours I asked when we would start the bottom fishing only to be told by the skipper and mate that there would be no bottom fishing that day as they had been informed that we only wanted to troll the first day and combo the second….how wrong could they get it?
I had to no alternative but to accept the first day of only trolling but insisted on a full day of bottom fishing the next day.
We didn’t catch a single fish the whole day but guess we were just a bit unlucky, the crew did try their best for us.
Second day…the bottom fishing tackle provided was very poor quality!
Some rods were in terrible shape with rings missing, half the reels had old mono line on them.
I don’t think the skipper was used to bottom fishing or knew any decent marks to target the bigger fish.
We caught only tiny reef fish in small numbers…tourist type trip and certainly not worth 1,000 euros for the day, we were very disappointed!!
This boat is really set up for trolling only, if you want to do any other method if fishing, try another boat.

We have a great day - crew were fantastic - unfortunately no big fish but the time of year didn’t help.

Only got a nice sunburn from this trip but not the crews fault. They did all they could to find fish, but its low seasson for my targeted fish. I can recommend them.

Excellent day. Crew couldn’t do enough. Weather prevented us fishing where they intended but still had a 500lb marlin. Would definitely recommend this trip.

My second Big Game fishing trip, first Islmerada now Madiera, I can only afford to do this once a year,
OK Lara Jade, well maintained, well equiped even clean toilets for madame, enthusiastic captain who gets stuck into the **hidden content** result My first Marlin Brillaint! now it is the boat that catches the fish not me, I just crank the handle. Sorry no pics, still processing the video.

Now the boat is tag and release so my Marlin is still swimming around in the atlantic hopefully scoffing sardines. I don’t know how much he weighed but he was bigger than me.

Now we were the only boat in Funchal to catch a Marlin that day, remember that this is fishing and a blank is always possible, the boat is equipped to fish deep if you need to recover honour in the last two hours of the trip you can still pull up some fish.
