Just would like to start by letting you know I am so sorry that Jose didn’t enjoy the fishing charter.  I feel terrible but would like to clear up details that you might not be aware of on how these charters operate.  These adventures are designed to create memories of the whole process from throwing the cast net to get bait, boat ride to fishing spots,  tactics in an effort to catching the trophies and just building memories!  I keep the boat on a lift about 6 miles away from 2 different pickup spots and based on where we are fishing pick up my clients at the closest area to where we will be heading.  Before I even put the boat in the water I start my morning by going to the bait shop to get shrimp, ice and water.  I arrived at the pickup spot with 8 dozen shrimp in the central live well.  If minnows will help improve success then we head to areas that hold bait to catch them with the cast net which is how it is done in our area.  Most people don’t know how to throw a cast net because it is an art like fly fishing and to know you caught your bait that is catching your dinner is very fulfilling for most anglers.  The trip was to start at 7am and I texted saying I was running a couple minutes behind schedule which was because of a late shrimp delivery and I arrived at 7:03am, but would always fulfill the amount of time, 6 hours later would have ended the trip at 1:03pm but I finished the trip at 1:35pm so they were given an extra 30 minutes at no extra cost after cleaning the fish they took home.  I did tell Jose before you guys came down for your vacation that if the weather is bad then we will head inshore to fish.  We started offshore trolling with planers which is a technical style of fishing and instruction is needed if not familiar with the system but it is very effective for catching all sorts of pelagic fish such as king mackerel, mahi, wahoo and even sail fish! I asked the guys if they ever fished the planer system before and everyone said no thus the reason of a brief fishing lesson because things get crazy fast and everyone needs to know what to do.  The weather and ocean were not working in our favor unfortunately because the further we ran offshore the seas were running between 3-5 feet tall which was why I ran the group in to fish the reefs.  When at the reefs I was able to locate a pod of fish and started chumming the water with those minnows we caught earlier and the shrimp to get a feeding frenzy going.  The guys had approximately 20 bites and Jose battled a big fish between 15 to 20 minutes before he lost it.  I felt bad for Jose because I know he wanted to have a special Father’s Day with his dad but the whole time he was on the phone working with his delivery business even when fighting the big fish he lost which I believe impeded his success:(.  I don’t think the poor guy had a half hour total without being on the phone. I am sure he felt frustrated that he couldn’t get into fishing because of the work distractions!  I talked with some fellow Captains and pros and based on how that fish was fighting it was either a grouper or big drum. The group did land 7 keeper fish that went to the knife for that nights dinner.  I never ever want people to be unhappy which is the reason I always ask if there is anything they wish I would have done differently but if not worthy of a 5 star review just let me know so I can fix it and address the situation.  Jose said everything was wonderful and he even tipped me.  Your family member Fernando who works as an engineer with Northrop Grumman asked for my contact information to post at work because of how much he enjoyed himself.  I did work very hard for them that day but also understand your point that I didn’t explain every detail prior to our trip like catching minnows.  I ask every group how they feel the trip went because it does affect my ranking and my livelihood.  I am always hoping we can build life long friendships, so next time you guys are in town just cover the fuel and shrimp let’s say $150 and the rest of the cost will be covered by me.  Next trip we will have a detailed conversation prior so all expectations will be met, like how we catch bait, but next time limit the phone conversation’s:).
