What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Quepos, Puntarenas for the first time?

September, we were told, is the low season month for fishing. If that is the case, I can’t imagine high season as we had 3 blue marlin, 15 yellowfin tuna and 1 sailfish.

Go offshore fishing. There is a great variety of fish and we did see lots of turtles, dolphins, pelicans and even a whale

Manage your expectations for the amount of fish caught in the “ offseason”. To maximize numbers fish in peak season which is anywhere from November to April. Talk to guides before you come

Best month of the year to go is November, in three hour charter you can catch up to 40 Fish, I went in July and caught four yellow fin tuna and one Spanish mackerel

The fishing license seems hard to do but it’s really easy and quick at the marina. 630-730am only. No English spoken but other non Spanish speakers were able to navigate it easy peasy.

Bring a long sleeve shirt that’s not tight and maybe a light rain jacket if it’s rainy season. We wore both on the way back because it was stormy and raining.

Cash is king; almost all transportation is cash only (dollars or colones). Sunscreen and proper clothing; the sun is strong and the humidity is high.

Go offshore. We did inshore last year and only caught 3 fish all day. Offshore we caught 25+ and they were so fun to catch. Wear lots of sunscreen!

Quepos has a very nice Marina. Plan to spend a little extra time looking at the shops and restaurants in the marina.

I would recommend to prepare for the sun and heat!! Bring lightweight, long sleeved shirt, hat and lots of sunscreen. Also, have a plan for any fish you catch!

Make sure your captain takes the time to catch live bait if you're fishing inshore! The more bait you have, the better.

Couldn't believe how much we caught. Ended up heading in early because one of our kiddos was really sea sick the but crew even helped him catch a huge sailfish.

Prepare yourself for the angry Costa Rican sun ☀️! The fishing is great, but Mother Nature will make you pay for every catch!

Just, enjoy it, your not always going to catch fish. It's called fishing not catching. For new people this is perfect, you can see the beautiful land and hopefully have lot's of action.!

This trip is recommended for first time anglers. Both my boys in their 20’s caught a fish on their first try.

Ask what is in season and what is currently being caught. A full day is a long one but can be rewarding. We caught two sail fish that were amazing!

The fishing isn’t as good as other points of the year, but still better than 95% of other countries.

Make sure your boat is out of the main marina and that you have all the bait and everything on board before you leave

Not the best time of year to catch fish, but the charters out of Quepos give you the best chance of catching them. The port was very well kept, clean, and professional. A great experience.

Fish bite was slow when we went in June but still managed to hook on 3 Sailfish and landed 2 of them

Quepos in June produces, the weather might put you in a bind depending on how the storms line up but the fish are there and eating.

Temper your expectations and listen to your crew. We had an idea of what we wanted - we communicated that and were open to being agile on the bite.

Try shoreline first because it is more accessible and there are plenty of fish. DEEP SEA: At least 2 persons, spend the dollars for a larger boat, try to avoid turist season.

Go for a full day if you want to catch multiple fish. Don't get too worked up over the little things, they work hard for you. Enjoy the experience come what may Pura Vida.

Make sure your captain has bait lined up before you arrive. It's gonna take time to fish for the big stuff and there is Nooo reason to pay to bait fish.

Tuna were a great fish to go after. The water was amazing and I would have to say some of the best fishing I’ve ever experienced.

Hire a local panga like Hidalgo Sportfishing - it is cheaper and supports the locals. You get great opportunity to fish with the full attention of a local captain who really knows the hot spots.

Understand it is into the rainy season, so the weather and waves can be rough. Still big fish to be caught.

Quepos is a little further down the road than Jaco, Herridura or Los Suenos but worth the trip. See the Monkeys on the beach at the parquet, fish Marina Pez Villa it's Pura Vida!

It was just ok, two charters caught 1 sailfish. Could have done that state side for a lot less. Jaco fish trip was better with 4 sailfish releases.
