What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Sayulita, Nayarit for the first time?

From start to finish, this was by far the best fishing trip I’ve ever had. Guides Chawin and Arturo make an incredible team — professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do. From the very beginning, they were completely in tune with finding and catching the best bait to ensure we could land some big Dorados. They worked tirelessly to get the right amount of bait, and their dedication truly paid off. Throughout the half-day trip, they never stopped working — constantly searching for the best fishing spots. Within the first two hours, we had already caught four Dorados, and by the end of the trip, we had an unbelievable total of nine beautiful, big Dorados! They went above and beyond by filleting the fish for us and keeping the atmosphere fun and engaging the entire time. Their humor, attentiveness, and genuine care made the experience unforgettable. For me it was bad but every one else appeared to enjoy. I think I picked the wrong boat and funny enough it was by default since only one left which tells me all I need to know. Your website also says they take PayPal and that was a whole issue. They ended up taking it because I told them it’s all I had. They called some random dude over with paypal and then charged me 6% additional fee for PayPal.

Absolutely book with Chawin Fishing and Captain Juan! Our son loved every minute and they knew exactly where to go even in not ideal conditions (literally rained 1 hour after we came back in). We had a very educational experience and caught bait fish and rooster fish. Made the best fish tacos ever out of our catch! Arturo was great at cleaning our fish for us after we came into shore.

You need to have knowledgeable locals who know about conditions/locations and what is biting. Gear is in good shape and captain/deckhand were top notch! They put us on the fish and we ended up with a full cooler after a couple of hours.

Moon cycle matters. Research the best time of year to fish if catching limits or trophies is your main goal.

It’s fishing…be open minded and know you may or may not catch fish, but enjoy the time on the water regardless

Look for professional people who love what they do. This crew is special. You always get more than you cost.

Mahi mahi will be the main target fish, but red snapper are also easily available to fish for, just a bit more out of the way

Not necessarily the best month for fishing. Whale watching was wonderful. Ocean was calm, little wind and sunny pleasant weather.

Be ready for an adventure if there’s a big swell and be aware that boats are lunched and dock from the shore

Fishing can be spotty, but communicate with your captain prior to booking to make sure you know what to expect.

Mahi are extremely strong fish - if you’re not experienced with large ocean fish, rely heavily on the crew to help you.

Info is hard to find for diy shore anglers, but the sardines are around when we were there and jacks fed hard on the surface.
