What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Gulf Shores, Alabama for the first time?

Find a charter and book with them directly. We were called by a different company than the one we booked on Fishing Booker telling us we were canceled. Glad I persisted and found it was incorrect.

Dress for the weather. Waters may be rough so if you're prone to getting sick, take something prior.

Between the six of us, we caught 15 Sheepshead at the bridge in the middle of March. They were fun to fight and tasted great grilled and fried.

Make sure you check the weather and check with someone with experience who knows when the fish ? comes in because the weather will trick them into staying out…

Get a Charter that has a good rating with good equipment and that has success catching the fish you want to go after.

Be open and transparent with the crew about it—I let my crew know ahead of time that my 3 sons had never been offshore fishing before and they handled them expertly and with patience.

The Snapper were smaller than they would have been a month earlier, but thy were biting. Great experience overall.

Summer fishing anywhere can be a grind but with such beautiful water and scenery it makes it tolerable.

Be prepared for some rough water. Summertime storms can pop up quickly. Expect to get wet. Pay attention to directions from the captain and the fish are a lot stronger than you might think.

Find your own charter by word of mouth. Most people in the area know the charters and will recommend someone that will actually take you out to catch some fish.

Take the dramamine. It was calm out there but we still bumped up and down a good bit. Dramamine is your friend

If you are going to do inshore fishing do your best to not pick a windy day if possible. The churned up water impacts water clarity and your fishing.

Chastain Ron put us on the fish all day had a blast even hooked up on a couple that were so big that they broke the line and bent the hook out. Caught our limit on big Spanish Macs and a few red fish

Sheepshead were spawning and in abundant supply. Reds were also uncharacteristically schooled up and easy to catch. Plenty of action.

Check the dates carefully, because it sounds like several different species spawn in a short period in spring. Really good options to catch a few different types of fish.

If fishing from pier, try catching Spanish Mackerel. Fast fun dont need alot of gear.

Communicate with your guide a few days ahead to make a weather-contingent plan. Wind matters.

It was hot…. But that’s just how it is. We still had a great time and would book again!

Fish was not biting too well (July 15th 6:30 to 10:30am), but was able to catch a few.

Lots of catfish that we threw back, water is clearly healthy. Caught over 26 nice fish to eat!

Winds were pretty high when we went but the in shore fishing, kept us from getting sea legs.

Bring small cooler on charter boat. Book early morning or evening when more fish are biting
