What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Calheta, Madeira for the first time?

The fishing trip on Flipper 2 was excellent. Could not recommend it any more enthusiastically. Practical tips before your trip - Bring change for the metered parking at Calheta Marina and we would not recommend using the Calheta Marina ATM which offers a really poor exchange rate. Get any cash you need before you arrive at the Marina.

Look for as many current fishing reports as you can find before you go. Nothing more than a week or two old.

Stay in Calheta as the roads can get busy so a taxi from Funchal is not cheap and takes a fair while on the way home. Beware of celebrations involving Poncha.

It’s fishing - you might catch a lot or you might be along for a boat ride…enjoy the experience!

The fishing has been tough but if you're prepared to work and listen to your skipper, you'll find your reward.

Fish with an experienced crew like Captain Mike and his crew. They will definitely put you on the fish! Their equipment is all top notch and they are very friendly. Don't miss out.

Calheta is very easy to get too and a beautiful little place. Restaurant Leme Marisqueira is the place to go to get your catch cooked, friendly staff and food was amazing.

Understand that nothing is guaranteed- it’s fishing. Enjoy the time out on the boat and you’ll have a good time.

Go with an open mind don’t be disappointed if you fail to catch just enjoy the moment. If you manage to hook up it’s likely to be big.Tight lines.

Use a local captain. If you can fish with Capt. Anders, do not hesitate to do it. My wife and I stayed at a convenient Airbnb Loft - Madeira - Funchal - Calheta.

Nice marina. Lot of game boats. Deep water fishing ground immediately outside marina. Sheltered side of the island so the sea is usually calm. Two good hotels next to marina.

Go. June- the big fish don’t arrive in May depending on the water temperature!

It’s a great time all the time. Fishing is of course seasonal but the experience is amazing here
