What would you recommend to anglers fishing in St. Joseph, Michigan for the first time?

Have fun, the Capt. can get you to the fish but can't make them bite. He will do everything he can to help. I would do it all again just as soon as my arm rests up from reeling in 2 big ones. The fun we had will last a lifetime.

We normally fish Michigan City since it's closer, but going to St. Joseph is worth it if you want Salmon and Steelhead. The St Joseph river outlet really makes a difference on the fishing, plus we didn't have to run out for an hour to find the deep water like we do in MC and Portage harbors on the same lake. More time fishing. The town is quaint and the views are amazing

With any fishing trip weather plays a big role especially in April. If you can get out during March or April that would be best. Run a spread of lines from top to bottom to produce best results for multi species.

Spend the whole day & take plenty of fish photos!!!! Don't be afraid to layer up with clothing - Weather can change in a blink!!!! Couldn't ask for a better first time experience!!!!!!

Saint Joseph, Michigan is the place to catch fish on Lake Michigan in the summer. We could not have been more satisfied.

Prepare for your arms to be tired. You might hit some slow patches but when you get a bite get ready for another one. Fish could be 1 lb or 30lbs you never know.

Would have been much different if we caught something. $600 is a lot of money to come home empty handed

maybe book a little earlier or an AM per the Capt suggestion...fishing is a bit better in the morning BUT that said, we did catch a full limit and were back early.

Get a good charter captain and talk to the locals about the fishing before hand or just get on the water on a charter and have some fun

Probably better first thing in the morning. We opted for 1:30 afternoon trip to appease the non-fishermen in the family.

Bring a sun hat, shades, and plenty of water and snacks. If you get easily boat sick, get a scopolamine patch for motion sickness.

If you suffer from motion sickness get Dramamine in your system the night before. Have plenty of water with you it can get hot quick.

Bring Plenty of Ice, Drinking Water, Snacks, Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, long sleeve shirt, pants, boat shoes, and bug spray -just in case blackflies are out. Be ready to catch fish.

We caught more fish the last couple times we went out, but that's just how fishing goes sometimes. Over all we were very satisfied

Bring warm clothes for the morning and sunscreen for the early afternoon. Also, don’t forget to pack a snack.

Do some research on the charter that you are considering and check out the reviews of what others have experienced with the charter, captain, boat, and equipment.

Find Captain Chris and his boat it was totally worth the 2 hour drive. The guys are fish whisperers .

If you’re looking for a big haul, go out early, but no matter what time you go you’ll have a great time on the water.

Captain was great! Awesome experience and very knowledgeable captain. Friendly and all around n great service. Definitely recommend.

Just remember it's Michigan! Weather can change anytime. Always be prepared for the weather to change and get too hot or too cold.

You will catch more fish in the morning. Jarrod told us to come back and do a morning trip and we would catch more fish!

It's a crap shoot. Some days may be good, others not. Fish just weren't biting. They were there, just not hungry I guess.

The water temp had changed over night and got colder so the fish were not very attractive and the bit was slow .we plan to try again in September hoping for better luck

As any fishing is concerned it’s hit or miss but we had fun and made memories

Get ready for some big king salmon! The best time to fish is after 8:30pm and before 6:30am.

Absolutely! The ride through the river, the lighthouse, and Lake Michigan is beautiful.
