What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Narragansett, Rhode Island for the first time?

We needed to travel all the way south of Block Island, so the trip was not for the seasick. But once we got there, they were practically jumping into the boat. No bluefish, which seemed unusual, only stripers.

Captain John on JL Charter and his crew were top notch. When others were having a slow day they were able to put us on fish. We caught at least 8 species including slot stripers, bluefish, bonito, fluke and mackerel. Highly recommend!

Just be aware it’s striper season but you basically can’t keep any because of the size restrictions so it’s a catch and release trip

Weather can directly effect your luck, you can’t blame the captain or the area when the weather isn’t the right

We had really good weather - light wind, sunny, and calm seas. This late in the season be ready for the wind and cold.

When fishing for Tautog bring your patients and focus they bite fast and are gone. This is a game fish that offers a unique challenge.

I suggested it’s not good for children as the water conditions can change fast. It could be dangerous to have a kid on a boat when the waves get large.

Be flexible in the fish you target. Listen to the crew and target the fish that are available based on the weather/season.

We could have booked charters closer to us in Connecticut. We thought it would be better to fish as close to open ocean as possible and we were not disappointed!!

You are close to the fishing grounds. Trips are between 4&8 hours.several motels near the boat and also in nearby towns.

Bring warm clothing, take Dramamine before hand if you are unsure or think there may be a chance of sea sickness. Be sure to tip your captain and crew.

The Captain asked what we wanted to fish and we asked for Striped Bass. We caught a great deal of what we asked for. I cannot rate the flounder or other species since we were focused on bass.

Be prepared for weather changes which is common in New England. Waters can be rough and meds should be taken if needed.

Excellent fight fishing for striper. Bottom fishing was good but not as many keepers. Caught our limit of Striper!

Bring a hooded sweatshirt and wear rubber soled footwear not sandals or "Crocs". A hat and sunglasses are a must and lots of water to stay hydrated. We liked fresh fruit

Come prepared for different types of weather. It might be a little cooler in the morning than you would expect.

Keep expectations reasonable - our first attempt at a trip here was cancelled due to windy/unsafe conditions. We persevered and succeeded on our second attempt with a dream fishing day!

We caught a lot of Black Sea Bass and a Flounder. The tide was crazy but we went home with some great fish.

It can br very windy this time a year. The wind died down in the afternoon around 3pm.

Stripers not so available in Aug, but plenty of black bass, which are quite good eating.
