What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Jekyll Island, Georgia for the first time?

Be prepared for anything. It’s called fishing, not getting. Sometimes they bite and sometimes they don’t. The Captain will do all he can to make it a good trip but it’s not completely on the Captain. Keep that in mind, and always be courteous.

Make sure to lower your expectations for fishing and you will have a great time. Not always gonna catch anything worth eating but if you are just looking to have fun and get a line wet, you’ll have a great time.

Great variety of species beyond just the target species. My boys also caught sharks and stingrays which they thought were the coolest part of the trip.

Be flexible on what you target, and trust the local captains to know what is biting. Tons of spots and options close to shore, and they will find fish.

Go with the recommendation of your captain based on the tides, but the middle of the day is HOT! My family was ready to head in at noon. I would recommend the morning or evening if the tides agree.

Fishing Jekyll island is a great experience. The only issue with fishing in July is obviously the heat. So as long as you are prepared for the heat and sun, you will be fine.

Talk to the captain and get pointers to prepare for the day. He'll be able to provide all the details you need to have a safe and fun day.

Charter a boat with Captain Shelby. The boat leaves out of Jekyl Marina instead of having to drive over to the mainland near St. Simons

Sure. Easy set up and if yoi have fished before it could be very simple to walk out the room and start catching fish.

A great experience for Families that have never been fishing for the first time.

Go earlier in the year if you want to get more popular species such as Redfish or Trout.

I would recommend anglers fishing to anyone. They are the only ones I will go with.

Just like any other fishing trip, dress in layers, and wear comfortable clothing.
