What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo for the first time?

Capt Alfonso and his crew were excellent, but we ended up trolling back and forth a half mile offshore, caught nothing and had no options. They did not provide any bottom fishing tackle or lighter rods to allow us to fish the bottom after the trolling didn’t work. Needless to say we were disappointed, and will move sure to request a bottom fishing trip next time.

I would definanlty tru out the gardi crew, do not go through the resorts. Book your own trip on fishing Booker. Weve done the resort booking in the past and never even got a bite and it seemed like the crews never tried.

Find a charter with a large enough boat to deal with rough seas. Do not go on a small vessel. The water can be rough and it makes for a bad experience if you don't have a vessel that can handle the waves.

I would suggest waiting til May or early June when the fishing is a little better. It was tough fishing but the crew will take care of you and try to give you the best experience. I wouldn't take real young kinds as even on the calmest days you are going out on the ocean it gets rocking out there. If you are a fisherman who loves being on the water you are going to love it no matter when you go.

Rated good because the captain of our boat (Allondra III) was amazing at finding fish during a slower month.

yes we been on several charters in the US and this was a much more memorable and easy water to fish in.

Just make sure you use the washroom facilities before you head out because it’s a long day.

I don't believe it is peak season, but it is a nice way to break up a week of beach and pool.

Fishing is slower, other boats near by were struggling trolling so we went jigging and managed to catch a few.

Bring hat, sunglasses, sunscreen. Be flexible. Have fun. Be ready for a variety of fishing techniques.

Good for jigging, did not hit anything when trolling but the day before they got Mahi-Mahi, so probably good.

If you’re there in August or last quarter of the year expect it to be slightly slower an have plenty of sunscreen

Yes it was my first time to but i catched a massive wahoo fish. They kindly said how i needed to reel it in. So yes absolutely i would recommend this trip even if you have never fished before.

Try and coincide your trip with the peak season of your preferred fish target. My trip was at the end of the mahi mahi season which made the trip a bit more challenging

The sargassum is bad in the summer but not much you can do about that. It's fine once you get off the shoreline tho

When we went was a bit of a transition between seasons but our captains were in contact with other boats and chased where the action was. Really responsive and invested in us having a good day.

Sea was very rough Caught 1 dorado Weather was tough wind and rainstorm Still had fun and great fishing story

Waters were beautiful, but choppy. 4/5 in our party got sea sick, so I would recommend treating for this ahead of time if anyone is prone to this.

Just show up with your payment and sunglasses! Fishing is done out in a deep trench between Mainland and Cozumel. You will not be too far offshore.

In May there is a lot of seaweed in Playa del Carmen, but its no Problem if you have the right Captain.

First mate had to keep checking the bait because of the grass that was floating. Had a nice day a little choppy but we stayed out for four hours.

Our boat caught one fish. We were the only boat out of 7 or 8 to catch a fish though. Didnt get skunked

Great day on the water even if fish are not biting. The snorkeling is really great and Balta and Paolo were fantastic hosts!

They help you a ton so no worries about having to bate your hook or filet your fish. The water was beautiful and we tried a variety of fishing. The most successful was bottom fishing

The bill fish bite was not good but the captain put us on the trigger fish which were a good fight and plenty of action.

Absolutely! Yes. Captain and his crew were fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. The ceviche he made after the catch was outstanding. Highly recommend!

It’s not the major season in February but we caught a bunch of fish off the bottom. Always love getting out on the ocean with a rod in the water.

We did not catch any of the targeted fish. That said, we did catch 3 small fish. Our team really tried to provide some action so we fished shallow with cut bait..

If you don't expect to catch a Marlin, you will be quite satisfied with the trip. Many other species are available. I had dinner for 4 for 4 days!

If you are expecting big fish in January this is not the time to go. But if you just want to catch any type fish then you should be okay
