Water temps finally reached a level where the fish weren’t lethargic. Had the pleasure of having Paul and his son fishing aboard. They were rewarded with multiple catches of redfish... the bite was so good that we were able to cull out the smaller slot fish! The young man had his hands full while battling this upper slot red!

Got a late start Sunday afternoon... we were only going for a boat ride as we didn’t have much bait and no time to search for live bait yesterday afternoon. As we drove by one of my secret spots, I noticed the conditions were ideal to fish it. After baiting up, we tossed in our lines and waited for the bite to happen. I hooked Into a fish and handed the rod off to her. Bam, she reeled in a nice slot redfish. We wait it out for about 40 minutes until the next good bite happens. As she is beginning to set the hook, another rod goes down! I reeled in a slot redfish while her battle is getting underway. Afterwards, I reel in the extra lines so she doesn’t get tangled up. Several minutes pass before we see her fish next to the boat. It was a big red! The fish makes several hard runs before she can it in position for me to net him. As I dipped the landing net into the water, I grabbed the line and guided it into the net. He was a full sized 27” redfish! After a few pics, we released the smaller of the three slot reds. All in all, it was a win-win situation for us as we each love being on the water and fishing.

Had to cancel afternoon trip due to bad weather. Seeing I’d already purchased bait, decided to give it a go if the weather broke. Headed out around 4 pm. Saw a few wild hogs swim across the river. Managed to catch a mess of fish... slot red and speckled trout plus a bass. The rain had those reds fired up! Cleaned them up and gave them away.

Only had a couple hours to spend on the water this afternoon. Lucked up and found some live bait swimming in the bay. Threw a perfect pancake over a small school of alewives and we raced off to one of the ideal locations for the conditions. Within 10 minutes of fishing, we reeled in two nice redfish and speckled trout. And then we raced back to Black Creek Lodge to load the boat onto the trailer.

After running a great trip with the Tucker’s (they reeled in 8!) this morning, I went back out to do some fishing myself. I caught 7.

Had a great and fun trip this morning with a nice family from Texas. I’m still grinning about how I got their youngest son to drink plenty of water and, later, he started fishing and catching them on his own. It truly is amazing to watch a child grow and become confident in such a sport period of time! Aside from all of the fish he and his brother caught, we finished up the trip with a swim and were treated with a show by the dolphins on the ride in. I don’t believe today could have been any better!
