Florida to Lake Erie. Jon wanted to get his son's Trent and Logan on their first Walleye. We set up a drift and cast to fill their cooler. We headed East into the sun then made a hard left out of West Harbor. We set up East of the can line and made long drifts towards the South Passage. We had a fair amount of White Perch. If you could get your crawler past the perch you had a good shot of a catching Walleye. 3/4 oz harnesses with gold blade. Wayne, Samuel and Tim out for a short afternoon Walleye action. We headed to the KI ferry lane and set up for non-stop reeling action. Right off the bat, A Walleye came to the net on Rapala J7 on a Dipsey 1.5 28 back. This one was released just before it reached the net. Then we went on a spell of giant sheep head. We found a little spot where we could catch Walleye before the sheep head hooked up. Same program as yesterday with a few BADMO LURES Arrowhead spinners tossed in the mix. Brendon in NW Ohio from Houston brought along an old neighbor now in Ohio for little Lake Erie Walleye action. We headed West of the islands and set out 2 Dipsey and a Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50 on each side. We ran mostly Rapala J7s on the downrods. Leads were 22 to 35 on the downrods. On the Off Shore Tackle Company planner boards we ran Reef Runner Tackle Company Deep Lil Rippers 60 back 2 oz. And BADMO LURES Arrowhead spoons on TruTrip 40s. Speed was 2.8 mph at times. Rare summer day off on July 4th. Left Cleveland at 6am, headed west to the Islands and set up off the islands weather bouy around 8:45 am. Had my 6 on Ice by 9:30. Went with 25 plus year old Hot N Tots on Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50s 22 back. Rapala J7s 28 back Dipsey 3 setting. In the catch and release period the BADMO LURES Arrowhead spoons took as many Walleye as the Hot n Tots. Played catch and release for an hour then headed to the beach for a hull scrubbing. Today was a rescheduled of a 30mph wind day a few weeks ago. Thos crew has fished with me for several years, always a great day. Mike and his wife Kay, Bill and a new comer Rummy. My thoughts to Bill's brother Rick and his wife. This crew demonstrates each year you don't have to leave the dock at 6am to capture Lake Erie Walleye. We left East Harbor State Park Marina around 7:30 and headed towards the Cedar Point Roller Coasters. Today we went heavy on downloads. Ray and his Son in law Alex up from Florida for a little Lake Erie Walleye drift and cast action. We left East Harbor State Park Marina and point the boat until we were in proximity of the CP Roller Coasters. Setting up 38 feet we drifted with the SW winds. Orange beads and Gold blades were the ticket for this morning. We used 1 and 1.25.oz weights from a 7 count an 18 count. Our retrieving was faster than normal. They wanted it faster than normal. When you drop back to back 26" Walleye could it be releated to the Bananas ? they bought aboard...? From their first cast to the last we had fish hanging. Nice grade of Summer WALLEYE.
