Ocean Isle Beach Visverslagen

We had a wonderful time taking this family from Boone out on the water for their first time! It was little man Vans fifth birthday and all he wanted to do was go fishing. We ran out about two miles offshore of ocean isle and dropped some pieces of shrimp down to the bottom. It was instant action! Van and his brother Mack caught tons of fish of all types. Black seabass, pin fish, pig fish, croakers, bluefish and more. To finish out the trip we decided to troll for the last twenty minutes. We rounded out the day catching two beautiful bonito and a couple spanish mackerel trolling. We had a beautiful afternoon on the water and we caught tons of fish! The fishing is going to continue to get better and better, so don’t miss out!

We had another beautiful morning on the water today. It started out overcast and a little bit chilly but it was nothing we couldn’t handle. As soon as we came out of the inlet I noticed the conditions were a little bit different than the previous day. We had a cold front come through and it changed some stuff up on us. The water right outside the inlet was a little cloudy and slightly colder than the previous day. It did not look great but we tried trolling for bonito, because how far could they travel that fast right? Turns out they can go pretty far. Anyways we caught a few spanish mackerel close to the inlet on some scattered bait. After about an hour the guys wanted to do some bottom fishing, so we ran out about 7 miles and dropped to the bottom. They were hungry! I bet they caught 100 sea bass before they finally cried uncle. Most of them were under sized but it was tons of action, and we even caught a few that were big enough for dinner. We decided to try trolling out in the deeper water for the bonito one more time before coming home. Unfortunately we did not see any signs of them out there either. All in all we had a great morning and lots of fun. Were booking up fast for the year so don’t miss out!

Today we had the pleasure of having a great group of repeat customers on the boat with us. This is the third trip they’ve done with us and every year it seems to get better and better. This year we opted to stay close and take advantage of the Atlantic Bonito fishing that is happening right off our coast. We ran out to about 40 foot of water and did some trolling. The ocean was flat calm and the weather was perfect. We trolled for about two hours and picked up a few fish but nothing too crazy. Then there was about 30 minutes of dead period while the tide switched around, but once it did it was worth the wait. We stayed pretty consistent catching plenty of bonito for a few dinners. These guys are like the black sea bass. They’ll probably hang around for another week or two before they dtart their migration back north so don’t miss out. We had another wonderful day out on the water. Ths goal today was to go and target black sea bass before they migrate back north for the summer. Right now some giant black sea bass are hanging out offshore of our coast in the 30-40 mile range. There was a big swell out of the south so it was hard to get any speed going without getting beat up too bad. About 18 knots was all that we could do, so we trudged our way out there. We knew that the ride out would be tough but once we got there everything would be great. After about an hour and a half of riding we made it to the spot. We stopped and caught a few small ones but not what we were looking for. Off we went again, only about five miles this time. Once we arrived I noticed big stacks of fish coming about 10 feet off the bottom. This spot looked much better. We dropped down and made quick work of a 4 person limit of nice sized sea bass. After that we bounced around to a few different spots in that area in hopes of finding a school of vermillion snapper. We found plenty but unfortunately most were too small. We ended up catching a couple keepers before heading home. We also caught a few nice red snapper that we released. (Out of season) All in all it was a great day with tons of action. We were rewarded with a box full of fish and a beautiful ride home. The seabass will stick around for another week or so before they start migrating back north. We had the opportunity to take a group of guys from Michigan on a nearshore fishing adventure today. The water has finally warmed up a little bit and the Atlantic Bonito have started to show up. We started out on some nearshore reefs trolling for Atlantic Bonito and Spanish Mackerel. It was a little slow, but we picked away at some fish all morning. They wanted to slide offshore a little farther and do some bottom fishing for black sea bass. We pushed out to the 10-12 mile range and were greeted with tons of fish, just a lot of undersized ones. They caught two keepers to bring home off the bottom. To finish out the day we stopped on the way home and trolled for the last hour or so catching a couple more Bonito for the frying pan! A cold front just came through which means the fan turns back on and so does the cold weather. Whenever we woke up this morning we knew that we were going to be greeted with cold winds and bumpy sea conditions. Our group knew what to expect and wanted to try to make it offshore anyways. We pushed offshore with the plan to make it as far as we could and do some fishing. We were able to make it out about 12 miles which would be the 50-55 foot depth range. The water is still really cold in that depth range so bottom fishing for black sea bass was our only option. The guys fished really hard and caught what I would guess to be hundreds of sea bass. Most of them were undersized but they caught around a dozen keepers for dinner and that was plenty!
