Visiting from N. Carolina, Jessica and her children picked a beautiful day to go fishing. They caught a variety of snapper and a few smaller black grouper. We spent the afternoon site seeing around Bill Bags Star Park and the famous Stiltsville flats.

Dispite our current, ever changing winds. The typical weedline stacking is just not playing out, making for difficult fishing conditions on the surface. So why not go below? This 53 lb. Cobia came within range of my speargun in 80 ft. Of water, under the shadow of a 9 foot Dusky shark. To my surprise surprise, I preemptively took my shot and hit this beast high in the back, just behind the head. Which caused a 20 minute battle to subdue the fish. Needless to say, the struggle attracted a lot of unwanted attention. Without my years of experience, this could’ve ended badly. Instead, this made for a happy mother on Mother’s Day. Sunday fun day. This one got away, but excitement was in the air, literally. Spit the hook in the early morning hours, along with some of it’s entrails. Needless to say we were ready, but the harpoon never left the boat. Next time big fella.

Fishing in Miami has been heating up to start the year. We have been enjoying a mixed bag of sailfish, kingfish, and Mahi offshore and snapper, jacks, and sharks inshore.

Springtime fishing in Miami has been extremely tough this year. Many Charters are keeping it simple, inshore ledges, near shore wrecks, etc. Always plenty of fish to catch and some decent take home snappers too! Remember, enjoy the day. In regards to tasty eating fish, we have been catching many blackfin tuna, yellowtail snappers, king mackerel, & wahoo! Which we can filet beautifully for you to pack up your cooler or bring to your favorite restaurant to cook, like Angler & Ale, Hawks Cay.
