**Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report: Marlin My Darlin Charterboat - December 1, 2024** November has been one for the record books here aboard the Marlin My Darlin. The month delivered exceptional charter fishing experiences, boasting an impressive array of pelagic species including mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, and a plentiful number of wahoo. It was certainly one of the most productive Novembers we've had in recent years, complemented by fantastic weather and bustling business. The offshore fishing scene has been a mixed bag. While we haven't encountered much seaweed or floating debris to target, the mahi fishing remains promising, albeit somewhat inconsistent. The catches offshore haven't been enormous, but we've landed a respectable number of school-sized fish with a few larger catches adding to the excitement. Kite fishing has been the highlight of late, benefiting greatly from the increase in wind. The conditions have ushered in a healthy collection of sailfish, mahi, blackfin tuna, and impressively large king mackerel. Kite fishing is a beloved practice in our waters this time of year, and it never fails to deliver thrilling moments on the line. Trolling along the reef has been a tale of two shifts. Morning charters have seen moderate action with a smattering of kingfish and small bonito. Conversely, the afternoon reels tell a different story, showcasing an abundance of blackfin tuna and the occasional wahoo as the day winds down. Our bottom fishing endeavors have been fruitful, with an influx of small vermilion snappers and a modest number of snowy groupers, which we've been careful to release. Although amberjacks and groupers have been somewhat elusive, we expect their numbers to grow in the coming months. Swordfishing offshore remains robust, with commercial boats and our charters alike enjoying success. The daytime fishing has been particularly noteworthy, landing sizable swordfish ranging from 150 to over 500 pounds using electric reels in depths of 1,700 feet. Lastly, shark fishing along the reef has been nothing short of phenomenal. In recent weeks, we've had exhilarating encounters with some truly remarkable specimens. Holiday season is here, and November fishing has not disappointed. We have been running into nice sizes Mahis, Sailfish, Kingfish, Snapper and Sharks. The humidity has finally lowered, which starts the arrival of different species of Pelagic fish in the local areas of Fort Lauderdale. Our two favorite fish we like to target are Mahi Mahi and Sailfish, which right now is prime time. Our most productive tactics have been Kite fishing, and slowly pulling live bait. It all depends on the current days condition, but recently has been pretty consistent. We like to use 20lb test spinners with 7’ rods for Pulling Live Bait. For Kite Fishing we use 20lb line with 6’ rods, both considered light tackle. In South Florida, we are thrilled to finally get some cooler weather. This always helps provide the fish to become active. Another great aspect of Fall weather is the fronts bring west winds which provides calm waters and good fishing. One day in November we decided to go Kite Fishing, it was a slower day on a Monday. In the last hour of the charter we didn’t have a really good bites. After we were starting to lose fate, we for a Spinner Flat line bite. After a few minutes, we figured out it was a decent sized Mahi Mahi, we saw the Fish Jumped and announced the species. We hooked this fish in 100’ of water, with minutes to spare. We then noticed many of other nice sized Mahis, swimming with this one. As fast as Captain Pete and Me could grab a bait, we were hooked up. At once point we have 5 Mahis on the lines. Two on the kite, and 3 on spinning rods. It was absolute chaos, but we kept it under control. We ended up with 8 nice Gaffer Mahi Mahis to end the day. Hours of no bites, then we really set the tone. It goes to show, you never know what’s going to happen out there. Also exciting news for Good Hit 2.0, we are proud to announce that she got a new paint job, and she looks beautiful. It actually feels like a different boat, every square inch of the boat got attention. Wait till you see it !

It's been a tough fall season for tarpon fishing in Fort Lauderdale the past few weeks with all the high winds but last night we had em' goin for the entire outgoing tide. Ive been fishing with mullet for the past few trips but last night we switched it up and used shrimp and crab, getting picked up on almost every bait we threw out. Stepping down the tackle and drifting in the current keeping a few up top on floats and a few down on split shot hooking up on every drift. The bridges paid off until the current was too strong then we moved into nearby canals just out of the wind and current and got right back on em'. Fishing light tackle near structure is always a challenge, there's a big tradeoff between getting the presentation right and having enough pulling power to get em' off the bridge. It's what makes this kind of fishing so much fun! Using the current and the boat to help you land these big fish. In September, we have been having some great late summer fishing. We were catching a variety of different fish, trolling, kite fishing, and wreck fishing. Recently, there were lots of barracudas on the 2nd and 3rd reefs. The kingfish have been biting on the troll and with live bait on the kite. My bait of choice has been Ballyhoo and Goggle Eye. We have seen more and more Goliath Grouper than ever before on the shipwrecks; even a few local divers confirmed the regional increase in population. Which is fun for anglers because, they put up a great fight and are stricktly catch and release. The Sailfish and Mahi will soon push towards the shallower reefs chasing ballyhoo and mullet bait schools. For some fishermen like myself, later summer and fall are the absolute best times of year to fish in South Florida. Summer fishing in South florida has been a great one, catching king fish, snapper, Mahi and bointa regularly. Last week we had a client that wanted to target Bigger Sharks on his Tour, so thats what we did. While targeting sharks, we hooked into a 9’ Tiger Shark, when the shark was coming up to the surface we noticed a few other fish Swimming with the Shark- COBIA. This is not a normal thing for this area, but with theses Cobia, there was one that was much larger than the others. This the fish that we went after. Not expecting this fish; we scrambled boatside for a bit before we could get a bait to him. after a few minutes of chaos we finally got a bait to him, and he ate it instantly. Now we have a tiger shark on the line and a large cobia, what an adventure. We eventually ended up landing both, the tiger and the cobia! Goes to show, you never know whats going to happen out there in the ocean! I hope you like my report- Captain Mike
