Summer fishing in South florida has been a great one, catching king fish, snapper, Mahi and bointa regularly. Last week we had a client that wanted to target Bigger Sharks on his Tour, so thats what we did. While targeting sharks, we hooked into a 9’ Tiger Shark, when the shark was coming up to the surface we noticed a few other fish Swimming with the Shark- COBIA. This is not a normal thing for this area, but with theses Cobia, there was one that was much larger than the others. This the fish that we went after. Not expecting this fish; we scrambled boatside for a bit before we could get a bait to him. after a few minutes of chaos we finally got a bait to him, and he ate it instantly. Now we have a tiger shark on the line and a large cobia, what an adventure. We eventually ended up landing both, the tiger and the cobia! Goes to show, you never know whats going to happen out there in the ocean! I hope you like my report- Captain Mike

Crazy hot weather past few weeks and the water temp inshore is 90 degrees, but that hasn’t shut off the bite for the juvenile tarpon. This week we’ve had multiple double ups, hour long sessions of topwater action on tarpon from 20 lbs to 50lbs. From Port Everglades inlet all the way to the pier and inside from 17th st to sunrise bridge, finding them at almost any tide as long as there is current the little tarpon are eating. Ive been fishing mostly at night and late afternoon even finding a few fish this week in the middle of the day when temps are the highest. Using mostly pilchards and small artificial, anything close to that profile will do the trick. When the tarpon are eating on top there isn’t much they won’t hit. Inshore fishing in Fort Lauderdale can be tough during the summer months but the past 2 weeks were definitely the exception to that rule. Night time brings the snook bite and as soon as the tide starts pushing hard the bite turns on at the bridges. Fishing flair hawks on the bottom on a straight retrieve with no action gets that big THUMP you are looking for. Step up the leader size find the right weight for the jig, sweep the bottom and hold on!! Drifting live baits back in the current will pick up tarpon hanging close to the pilings up on top. The inlet has been hit or miss this week but always worth it putting some time in to find the bigger fish. Outgoing tide has been most productive at the inlet and down the shoreline to the north. Looking forward to the next few weeks when the bait starts to really thicken up and get these fish going crazy. ### June 27, 2024 Fort Lauderdale Charter Fishing Report Hello fellow anglers, The last couple of weeks have truly felt like summer in full swing, with hot temperatures and late afternoon thunderstorms gracing us daily. Such conditions often bring favorable opportunities for fishing, and this summer has been no exception. #### Reef Fishing Update The summertime migration of Bonitas and Kingfish has officially started along the reefs, accompanied by healthy numbers of Blackfin Tunas. There’s even been the occasional Wahoo sighting, adding a bit of excitement to our outings. The reef fishing has been very productive and promises great experiences for those keen on these species. #### Offshore Fishing Report Offshore Mahi fishing has been outstanding over the past few weeks. Several boats have reported reaching their limits, although there have been quite a few smaller catches mixed in. While some of these smaller fish are not yet legal size, it's a positive indicator for the future of Mahi fisheries. #### Bottom Fishing Insight On the bottom fishing front, conditions have been less ideal due to weak currents and murky water. This has resulted in fewer Jacks; however, anglers have still enjoyed decent catches of small Vermillion Snapper, Mutton Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper. The catch consistency has been a morale booster despite the slower action on the wrecks. #### Kite Fishing Observations Kite fishing has been challenging due to the calm seas and lack of wind, typical of summertime conditions. Nevertheless, on the few days we’ve managed to set up kites, there has been success with Blackfin Tuna, Kingfish, Barracudas, and even Sailfish—the highlight for many. #### Shark Fishing Outlook Summertime shark fishing has definitely ramped up, with frequent catches of large Sandbar Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerheads, and even some Tigers. If you have shark fishing on your bucket list, now is the perfect time to venture out and make that dream a reality. #### Looking Ahead As we move away from the dark side of the moon over the next few weeks, we anticipate even better fishing conditions. The Mahi Mahi and Kingfish have moved into South Florida. We are catching Dolphin offshore, and Kingfish on the reef. Trolling has been the most productive style of fishing, when we find the Mahi we normally cast live baits to them on light tackle. The size has been ranging to 5-10lbs with a few nicer fish mixed in. Ballyhoo is the best bait for trolling for Mahi and live bait we preffer is pilchards for summer. The larger sharks have also been around the ship wrecks, we caufht this gaint hammerhead on a kingfish, which we fought for 1 hour on heavy tackle. You cab say its a great time of uear to go fishing. Fort Lauderdale Inshore Fishing Report Late June. Summertime in Ft. Lauderdale is here and so are the big fish, small baits, hot temps, rainstorms and SHARKS!! This past week has been challenging with the weather and the sharks both popping up out of nowhere but thankfully only sticking around for a short while. Sea conditions on the other hand have been exceptionally calm, the inlet has been slicked out almost every night for the past week making spotting the rolling fish much easier. The schools of tarpon have been rolling thru on the outgoing tide spotting them out in the middle of the inlet but most feeding closer to the jetties in Port Everglades. Fishing with big live mullet always brings action but you have to be willing to sacrifice half those baits to all the lemon sharks around. A few fish were brought up this week on live pilchards, drifting em back on floats and flatline, even hooking a few on topwater at sunset. Fishing for tarpon in the summertime can be tough but if you put in the time it pays off. Most of the fish we brought up this week have all been over 60 lbs. some pushing 150!! Those big Tarpon are out there!! The bait I’ve been using is Mullet and Pilchard. Most of the mullet in Ft. Lauderdale right now are big, over 12 inches. The pilchards in the port are a bit small now but the bigger ones will be coming down the beach soon. Wait for the end of the outgoing tide when the schools of bait start flushing out of the inlet and and these fish turn on like a light. There are still quite a few Sailfish around, and we've also seen some really big Blackfin Tunas, predominantly caught using the kite technique.
