Spring fishing around Boca Grande has been heating up, and this week we checked off a classic Boca Grande inshore slam with redfish, snook, and speckled trout all coming over the gunnel. We started the morning working the shallow grass flats and oyster bars where the trout bite fired up early. Live bait and soft plastics produced steady action, putting several solid trout in the boat before the sun got high. As the tide began to move, we pushed into the mangrove shorelines and potholes where the redfish were cruising. It didn’t take long before a beautiful slot redfish crushed a bait and made a strong run before coming boatside. To top off the slam, we worked a few ambush points along deeper mangrove edges where the snook have been staging. Sure enough, one aggressive snook inhaled the bait and gave us a fun fight before landing the final piece of the inshore slam. Fishing around Boca Grande continues to improve as spring settles in.
