Steve and his dad Robert made the trip down from Indiana to experience South Louisiana inshore fishing before Robert’s 90th birthday. Their trip started with a visit to the National WWII Museum before heading west in search of a charter. A stop at Ivy’s Tackle Box pointed them my way, and we ended up fishing together four times over the last two months. The first two trips we targeted sheepshead (sweet meat) and put together some solid boxes of fish. As the weather warmed up, we shifted gears on the next two trips and focused on redfish, which provided steady action. It was an absolute pleasure having these guys on the boat. Mr. Robert still has the same excitement for fishing as someone half his age. Trips like this are what make guiding so rewarding. Day 1 with the Stevens’ big crew. I had Gentry, Alex, Chandler, and Raymond onboard. We started out good but the action turn HOT and the guys went to town smashing on some speckled trout. Plenty of smack talk going on in the boat and I may or may not have partaken in some of it!?We were fishing like it was tied up, in the bottom of the 9th, for the championship! I had H.E. and his good buddy, Jerry, back onboard. It wasn’t fast and furious but the guys stayed picking at them for an early finish. We were able to beat the winds picking up and the heat.
